March 14, 2013 11:49 AM
The U.S. Fed Cup team during the 2013 First Round against Italy.
The U.S. Fed Cup team is set to take on Sweden to maintain its spot in the prestigious World Group – and fans can purchase tickets beginning March 20 at 10 a.m. ET to be part of the team’s home-court advantage in Delray Beach, Fla.
The U.S. and Sweden will play a best-of-five match series, April 20-21, in a 2013 Fed Cup World Group Play-off at the Delray Beach Tennis Center, with the winner going on to compete in the World Group in 2014 and the loser being relegated to World Group II.
Players for each team will be announced no later than 10 days prior to the start of competition.
Tickets can be purchased as two-day packages or as individual sessions. Prices for the two-day packages are $70 and $120. Prices for individual sessions are $40 and $65. Additional ticket fees apply. Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 888-334-USTA (8782).
The World Group Play-off will mark the fifth matchup between the U.S. and Sweden in Fed Cup competition, with the U.S. leading the series, 3-1. The two nations last faced each other in the second round of 1988 World Group competition, where the Swedes won, 2-1. The U.S. won the other three matchups, in 1966, 1975 and 1983.
This will be the fourth Fed Cup tie played in Florida and the third played at the Delray Beach Tennis Center, making it the only venue to host a U.S. Fed Cup tie on three occasions. The U.S. squad has never lost a match in its three previous trips to Florida, posting 5-0 sweeps over Austria in the 1995 World Group quarterfinal in Aventura, and against Belgium in the 2005 World Group quarterfinal and the 2007 World Group quarterfinal, both in Delray Beach.
The two-day, best-of-five match final is being organized, staged and promoted by the USTA. Local sponsors include the City of Delray Beach, Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency and the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. Tennis Channel will present live daily coverage of the World Group Playoff.
