Strength and Conditioning Programs

The USTA Sport Science Department has put together a strength and conditioning program that does not require any fancy equipment. Originally designed for the USTA National Coaches as an "On the road training manual", these exercises can be used by virtually any tennis player to prevent injuries and enhance performance.

Shoulder Pain in Young Players


Dr. Dan Grobman offers advice on the cause and treatment of shoulder injuries in young tennis players, including analyzing stroke form and frequency of practice and tournament play.

Growth Related Pains


Dr. David Westerdahl explains the differences between growth related pains and injuries in young tennis players, emphasizing the need for a physician or orthopedist to evaluate children who develop muscle and joint pain during physical activity, and not to simply assume that such pain represents growing pains.
