Donald L. Tisdel
Donald L. Tisdel began serving a third consecutive two-year term as Secretary-Treasurer of the USTA in January 2011. He is the Chair of the Budget Committee and a member of the Audit and Investment committees; this is his third consecutive term on all three committees. Tisdel is also a member of the Compensation Committee and of the Major Construction Oversight Committee, and he is on the board of directors of USTA Serves.
Prior to assuming the position of Secretary-Treasurer, Tisdel served a two-year term as a Director at Large, where he was the Board Liaison to the Service Council, chaired the Audit Committee and served as a member of the Strategic Planning Committee; he had previously served as Vice Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee from 2002 to 2004. Tisdel was also an original member of the Advanced Media Committee, serving continuously from 2000 to 2004.
Tisdel has been an active tournament player for more than 60 years and continues to compete in two separate age-bracket categories. He competed in the U.S. Junior Hard Court Championships, played for two years on the U.S. Air Force tennis team, competed on multiple occasions in the U.S. National Championships (now the US Open) in both the men’s and mixed doubles tournaments, and has represented the U.S. in international competition on three occasions. His other tennis-related experiences include founding a tennis club, starting two tennis tournaments (with the net proceeds from one dedicated to cystic fibrosis) and securing the financing for three additional tennis clubs.
Tisdel received his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Utah and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. His business experience includes 19 years as Chief Executive Officer of both a publicly held financial holding company and a $5 billion savings and loan for which he designed and executed its recapitalization. He also founded or co-founded five companies, two of which he took public.
Tisdel currently serves as the Senior Operating Partner of Northwest Capital Appreciation, Inc., a private equity firm he co-founded. Under Tisdel’s direction, Northwest Capital formed two private equity partnerships that control four diverse companies with aggregate revenues exceeding $5 billion and a work force of approximately 1,700 employees. His board experience includes 17 for-profit and 10 not-for-profit appointments, and he currently serves on one for-profit board and two not-for-profit boards.
Tisdel and his wife, Gerri, have two sons, two daughters and seven grandchildren. They live in Lake Oswego, Ore., and reside in the USTA Pacific Northwest Section.
