USTA PNW LEAGUE AWARD
FACILITY OF THE YEAR
USTA Pacific Northwest | November 28, 2018
A big congratulations to Nordstrom Tennis Center at the University of Washington (Seattle, WA) for winning the 2018 USTA PNW Facility of the Year award! This facility was voted on by the USTA PNW Competition Staff and Adult Competition Committee after reviewing several nominations by local USTA players. Facilities are judged upon the following criteria: ease of working with USTA leagues, number of USTA teams vs. size of club, courts provided for Playoffs/Sectionals, overall layout and adaptation to site, excellence of court surface and lights, and other amenities that enhance the player/spectator experience.
Our Northwest Washington Regional League Coordinator, Jill Borgida, has been working with Nordstrom Tennis Center now for 5 years. Here is what she has to say about her experience with them:
"Both Darin Rauso and Karen Baebler have always been huge supporters of the USTA and are always there in a pinch to help out with any requests that are asked upon them. ADVERTISEMENT I know that I can always count on them if I have weather issues for playoffs and need back up courts. They are always there to help out in any way that they can.
Captains are very fond of playing at the Nordstrom Tennis Center, they host many USTA teams and always provide the home team with a warm up court and an overflow court as well. They are one of the few clubs that are able to offer this benefit to their teams. Darin Rauso is always so on top of it, that he even takes it to the next level and reaches out to the captains one week prior to each home match to confirm the home match and let the captains know if they have all 5 courts playing at once or whether there may be a split court time. They host the University of Washington men and women's tennis teams there, so Darin has to always balance the Huskies schedule along with the USTA teams, and he does a fine job managing both.
Overall, Nordstrom Tennis Center is just a great place for USTA matches. Thank you to Nordstrom Tennis Center for all of your continued support for the USTA leagues."
Special note from Darin Rauso, Manager of Nordstrom Tennis Center:
"Being named the 2018 USTA PNW League Facility of the Year is a significant honor, and we are very grateful to be given this coveted award. The Pacific Northwest is home to many deserving tennis facilities, which is why this award is very special to us. We would like to thank the USTA Committee for selecting us for this award, as well as the participants who nominated Nordstrom Tennis Center. The USTA has been an integral part of our facility, and we are excited to continue to help aid in the growth of the USTA PNW. An award like this wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of Karen Baebler (Assistant AD for Sport Operations), UW Tennis Coaches, and all desk staff and instructors.
Thank you again. Nordstrom Tennis Center at the University of Washington is very proud to be your 2018 USTA PNW League Facility of the Year."
Thank you, Nordstrom Tennis Center, for all your amazing work! We are so grateful for facilities and staff like yours.
