Keep 100 Years Strong

Since 1923, our mission to grow the sport has not wavered and remains more relevant than ever. With more than 1.3 million people playing tennis today in our region and another 1M interested, USTA Mid-Atlantic Foundation is leading the way to increase access to the sport and chart a course for the next 100 years of tennis. Tennis continues to thrive in our region along with every individual and community that the sport touches.

From our early beginning a century ago, to where we are today increasing access to tennis for ALL, our story is built upon a strong foundation cultivated throughout our 100 year history. Tennis has never been stronger in the Mid-Atlantic than it is today.

FAQ'S

USTA Mid-Atlantic is honoring our 100th anniversary with a year-long Centennial Celebration articulating our vision for the future of tennis, while saluting the impact of the sport, our rich history and those that have paved the way to help our nonprofit organization and tennis get to where it is today. It will bring awareness to USTA Mid-Atlantic Foundation’s philanthropic mission – making tennis available to ALL by growing the sport of tennis, creating community, and developing character and well-being.

Our name change, from "Mid-Atlantic Section" to "Mid-Atlantic Foundation”, better reflects our deep commitment to succeeding on the mission and promoting tennis and its physical, social, and emotional health benefits as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It will enhance our capacity and future-proof the sport for another 100 years of tennis for you and future generations.

There are five primary ways we are celebrating throughout 2023.

  • CENTENNIAL CLUB

As a charitable nonprofit, USTA Mid-Atlantic Foundation relies on the generosity of people to fulfill its mission. USTA Mid-Atlantic Foundation provides charitable and outreach programs such as  junior player scholarships, tennis court restoration grants, and community engagement grants to increase access to tennis and programming. We also support community providers, coaches and schools that directly deliver tennis in a school setting such as in PE or after school programs.  We have a signature program, Girls Rule the Court that is increasing access to tennis for girls in underserved communities and provides coaching opportunities for women.

You will continue to experience the foundation's mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis, and the organization’s programs and services that support your tennis goals and interests. Whether it's registration for a USTA Mid-Atlantic event or a donor statement of giving, you will start to see "USTA Mid-Atlantic Foundation" on many of your materials and communications. New name, same mission and services!

No, not at all. Everything that USTA Mid-Atlantic has previously done to grow tennis and support

the sport in the region remains the same. We will still govern the sport as usual, offer wide-reaching and accessible USTA programs for all, we continue our support of the entire tennis ecosystem of facilities, providers, coaches, organizers, and we will continue to provide our outreach and philanthropic support in the form of Junior Player Scholarships, Facility Restoration Grants, Girls Rule the Court, Tennis in School programs and more.

Our name change signifies our commitment and dedication to growing tennis and increasing access to the sport through our philanthropic efforts now and for the next 100 years. It will allow us to make an even greater impact and do more to succeed on our mission and vision for tennis in EVERY community.

We are our own separate entity and not part of the USTA Foundation.
