High School Coaches State Association Checklist
The following is a comprehensive checklist created to provide guidance for individuals regarding high school tennis coaches associations. These guidelines can be used to build brand new associations or help existing associations grow and further the support of high school coaches in your state.
Contact your USTA section for grant opportunities.
Identify and engage key coaches/stakeholders in your state.
Select your board of directors structure.
Select board members.
Develop a mission statement.
Begin to develop a strategic plan.
Create a set of by-laws. (Reach out to other state coaches associations as a resource
Select an entity name. (Complete a name search on your government agency website to see if your entity name is available.)
File appropriate documents with the government agency that approves a new entity (corporation or LLC). Typically these are called Articles of Incorporation. Most state associations form a non-profit entity.
Determine the best mode(s) of communication and develop the infrastructure:
- Website
- Social Media
Establish the administrator(s) of each communication channels.
Establish a finance structure:
- Open a bank account.
- Assign two officers to the bank account for a check-and-balance system.
- Secure a debit and credit card for the association to purchase supplies, etc.
Determine your membership dues and the dues cycle. For example, do you want to base dues on a calendar year or a school year?

Recruit members through outreach and coaching conferences.
