What Data Reveals About Youth Sports’ Recovery from COVID-19

Global data intelligence company, Morning Consult, and youth sports sponsorship platform, LeagueSide, surveyed hundreds of youth sports program organizers and parents about how they have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and what a return to play might look like. Key findings include nearly half of youth sports organizations are in danger of shutting down permanently, and more than half of parents are less likely to enroll their children in youth sports in wake of the pandemic.

Points of Insight:

  • How youth sports organizers view the future of their programs
  • How organizers’ expectations for a return to play compared to those of parents
  • Will parents be comfortable with their kids returning to play before there’s a COVID-19 vaccine?
  • Are parents willing to provide additional support to youth sports organizations to help them through the coronavirus crisis?

The inside story on opening your indoor facility

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit sports facilities hard, but as businesses begin to open up again, tennis is being promoted by health experts, government officials and mainstream media as a perfect sport to play for people looking to get active again while maintaining physical distancing. Our webinar, with key industry experts and indoor facility owners/managers, will discuss what you need to do to safely open up your indoor facility and to welcome players to tennis. You’ll learn, through their experiences with their own facilities, how they’ve approached challenges such as continual cleaning of the venue, traffic flow, scheduling, staffing, and more, so that your facility can reopen smoothly and safely.

NEW HORIZONS - 5 Positive Reflections for the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond with Wayne Elderton, Tennis Director, North Vancouver Tennis Centre, Head Course Facilitator for Tennis Canada Coaching Certification in British Columbia

For many of us, we have been oblivious to the treadmill of busyness and activity we have been on. We are often not aware of the hamster wheel we are on until situations like Covid-19 causes us to pause and reflect.

One of the revelations is moving to what many refer to as ‘the new normal.’ To fully embrace this new landscape, we need to not be so quick to ‘get back to how things used to be’ (and the accompanying drive to get our players back there as well). Maybe, just maybe, back (although it may have been safe, comfortable and familiar) is not the direction we should put our energies towards.

Most competition delivered in programs provides a way to test player’s skills, have them engage with friends, have fun and promotes retention. Due to restrictions enforced by COVID-19, how should we offer competition moving forward? Our panelists will share recommendations on how they would phase in competition into a program. Should we be offering more local play opportunities to our players, knowing the appetite for travel has diminished? What type of formats should be considered? Join us as we take this insightful dive into competition.
