USTA Southwest will select team captains for all divisions offered for the USTA National Men's and Women's Team Events.

 

For the women's that event is called Intersectionals and for the men that event is now called the Donoff Cup.

 

Dates and times for these 2019 events are still to be finalized and announced, but check back for more info. 

 

Interested captains for either men's or women's squads should fill out the form links above for their gender and send it to Shelby Payne, payne@southwest.usta.com, by 11:59 p.m. on May 31. 

 

ABOUT PLAYER SELECTION: Captains must be USTA Southwest members in good sectional standing, and frequently represent the highest-ranked players in the particular age division of the competition.

All chosen captains will be encouraged to select their team based on:
- District, Sectional, and National rankings
- Current year’s tournament record
- Any other pertinent information such as Non-Sanctioned USTA tournaments and/or league play.
 

Expenses - Transportation, lodging, food and other expenses are the responsibility of the players. Contact your respective captain with questions.

Player entry fees include all court costs, tennis balls, player banquet, welcome reception, player gift and awards.

WOMEN: Women's Intersectionals squads compete in the 35s, 45s, 55s, 65s, 75s and 80s age groups. The format is three lines of singles and two doubles for all age divisions lower than and including 65s. For 75s, the format is two lines of singles and two lines of doubles. For 80s, it's one line of singles and two lines of doubles. 

Teams move on for winning the most lines per team match and keep advancing through a compass draw, so even losing teams are guaranteed multiple matches.

MEN: The men's competion was formerly called Intersectionals, but is now called the Donoff Cup. The Donoff Cup is composed of the following age divisions: 55s, 60s, 65s, and 70s competing in round robin team matches for each USTA Section that chooses to participate. 

 

A dual match consists of three singles and two doubles matches per division, each counting for one team point. Singles contests will be the best of three tiebreak sets using regular scoring; doubles matches will be two tiebreak sets using regular scoring with a 10-point match tiebreak as a deciding set.

 

The winner of a team match is determined by the Section that wins the most individual matches; a team can earn up to 20 points in a single dual. If two or more Sections end the weekend with the same number of individual victories, head-to-head results will determine the overall team champion.
