2019 USTA Northern
Early Development Camps
Daniel Borgertpoepping | January 11, 2019
USTA Northern will have two section faculty coaches assigned to help with each camp that is conducted. Our section faculty coaches are Craig Gordon, Director of Tennis – Town & Country Club, and Steve Tacl, Director of Jr Development - Rochester Athletic Club.
The EDC’s will be one-day camps (4 hrs. in length), focusing on players ages 7-10 (birth years ’09-’11 for 2019) – orange ball/60 ft. court and green ball/78 ft. court, a 6:1 player to coach ratio. The lead coach along with section coaches will be working each camp.
In 2019, USTA Northern will host eight EDC’s throughout the section at the following locations: Life Time - Lakeville, Rochester Athletic Club, Huether Family Match Pointe (Sioux Falls) and Menard Family Tennis Center (Eau Claire). The goal for 2019 is to impact a greater number of players throughout the section by taking the EDC’s to the various locations as opposed to having players coming into the Twin Cities or Rochester for all camps, which has been the case in past years. (Some camps may combine orange and green ball players)ADVERTISEMENT
Camp Dates and Locations
April 13 - Life Time - Lakeville
April 20 - Eau Claire
May 4 - Sioux Falls

For 2019, we will be working with local pros and coaches throughout the section, asking them to submit a list of orange ball and green ball players that would be good candidates for the EDC’s. Once the player list is compiled - respective to each specific area - and players have been selected, USTA Northern will then send invite letters to those players. Final EDC participant selections will be determined by the USTA Northern Player ID & Development Committee. The Player ID & Development Committee is comprised of volunteer pros and coaches from around the section who are working with and developing high level players in all age groups. These are dedicated individuals who have numerous years of experience and certifications. Final selections will take place at the February Player ID & Development Committee meeting on February 8, 2019.
EDC and selection information will be sent to clubs and all USPTA and PTR pros in USTA Northern. Information will also be posted on the section website and will be sent to past EDC participants that fall into the above birth years and to appropriate USTA Northern contacts via email and e-blasts.
If for some reason you feel your coach or pro did not receive the information or your child is not affiliated with a club or coach/pro, we would like you to submit a short video. Please contact Pat Colbert for further information on video submission at email@example.com.
Once selected, the player will be invited to take part in camps from the area that their name was submitted from.
Example: Sally’s name was submitted by XYZ pro in Sioux Falls, SD, she would participate in the Sioux Falls camps. Johnny’s name was submitted by XYZ pro in Eau Claire, WI, he would participate in the Eau Claire camps. (If there are too many players for one location, we may ask some players to attend the EDC at a different location).
We want to keep the camps local and avoid having players traveling a great distance to attend an EDC.
Eau Claire Camps: $100 (includes the 2 camps as players would be selected and attending both camps in their area) and is due in full at time of registration. (The EDC fee will not be pro-rated.)
Sioux Falls: $100 (includes the 2 camps as players would be selected and attending both camps in their area) and is due in full at time of registration. (The EDC fee will not be pro-rated.)
Lakeville/Rochester: $200 (includes the 4 camps as players would be selected and attending all camps in their area) and is due in full at time of registration. (The EDC fee will not be pro-rated.)
All player submissions for 2019 will be via JOTForm – all player submissions are due NO LATER than 5PM, February 4, 2019.
Players that are selected and not selected for the 2019 EDC’s will be notified the week of February 11, 2019.
