Home Court Advantage nets new scorecards and windscreens for Denver parks
Bigger and Better together
City Park and Wash Park to receive new windscreens
Congratulations to the Tennis Champions of City Park and Washington Park for stepping up to advocate for their home courts and being the lucky recipients of round 2 Home Court Advantage capital improvements to make the courts even more inviting. With the added support and contributions of the Colorado High School Athletics Association (CHSAA), City Park Racquet Club and Wash Park Tennis Club, the scope of round 2 of the Home Court Advantage initiative of USTA Colorado and Denver Parks & Recreation increased significantly. The augmented purchasing power enabled the round 2 Home Court Advantage initiative to supply new windscreens for both of these heavily-used public park tennis court locations. To maximize the life of the new windscreens, installation is scheduled for early Spring 2024. Look for community events to launch the 2024 season and unveil the improvements with the partners and Tennis Champions who are making them possible.
New scorecards installed at Berkeley Park
On a beautiful Saturday morning in early August, Tennis Champions and local players came out to the courts at Berkeley Park to celebrate the unveiling of new score boards and other small improvements as one of the round 1 Home Court Advantage winning locations. Participants got an intimate opportunity to engage directly with Denver Parks and Rec and USTA Colorado representatives and provided suggestions and discussion on ways to ensure well-maintained and adequate public tennis court availability to meet the strong demand for tennis. Fun on the court followed for those of all ages and abilities with Babolat bringing demo racquets and players testing their serve against the radar gun.
Greenway Park, the other Home Court Advantage round 1 recipient, will be receiving their new scoreboards in early spring. Due to supply chain issues, the scoreboards are on back order until later this year but will be in place to kick off the 2024 outdoor tennis season at the courts.
Although the Home Court Advantage has come to a close, the voice of Tennis Champions, in Denver and across the state, remains as valuable as ever. Tennis is booming! This creates a strain on infrastructure and programming. Invite others to share their passion for tennis and share their voice to support the sport they love. As Wash Park and City Park discovered, bigger things can come when we work together!
