NEW HIRES IN LEADERSHIP ROLES ADDS DEPTH OF TALENT FOR USTA MID-ATLANTIC

Introduction of new Director of Development role to support the philanthropic mission

USTA Mid-Atlantic Section, Inc. (USTA MAS) has recently added top talent to the nonprofit organization’s leadership, bringing on Jeri Ingram in the newly created Director of Development role. The hiring move bolsters the Section’s strong female-driven leadership and leverages Ingram’s extensive nonprofit and tennis experience to support the Section’s five-year strategic plan and growth of tennis in the region.

In addition, Tina Carter joins USTA Mid-Atlantic as the Director of Adult Programs and Shell Wood has been promoted to Senior Director of USTA Programs and Services overseeing business divisions across the adult, youth, and community tennis spaces. The hires and staffing change direct people resources to priority, strategic areas of focus including philanthropic outreach initiatives, and attracting and retaining adult tennis players.

“We have an ambitious vision for tennis in every community, where all people can easily access and benefit from the sport,” said Beth Twomey, chief operating officer for USTA MAS. “Bringing Jeri and Tina onto our team strengthens our capacity to succeed on our mission and infuses new and unique ideas, different perspectives, and talents to our culture and the work we do to make tennis the most accessible sport in the Mid-Atlantic region.”

In the newly created Director of Development role, Jeri Ingram will advance the philanthropic mission and programs in the Section so that vital outreach that increases access to the sport, especially in under-resourced communities, can continue and grow.

She will strategically engage with the tennis community, partners, funders, and aligned organizations to grow tennis in the region and find innovative solutions to address barriers to access. This role will ensure the Section’s outreach and grant programs such as the Junior Player Scholarship, Facility Restoration Grant and Tennis Creates community provider grants continue to make an impact. She will draw on her extensive experience as former founder and executive director of the Metropolitan Tennis and Education Group (MTEG), one of the top NJTL chapters in the country, and her experience as a former professional tennis player. With MTEG, Jeri used her extensive experience to develop hundreds of youth athletes through access to quality tennis and education programs.

“I am excited for the opportunity to impact the USTA Mid-Atlantic mission through development and partnerships that will enrich all lives,” said Ingram. “It has always been my hope that tennis is a part of every person’s life and in this position as part of the USTA Mid-Atlantic Section team, I will be engaged in a diverse portfolio of offerings for all participants to propel tennis growth.”

Tina Carter is the former director of the Mary and Frances Youth Center at Virginia Commonwealth University where she developed programs, partnerships, and events that engaged the community with tennis and education. She was instrumental in the success of the  Lobs & Lessons program that serves more than 600 youth annually and received four awards at the state, regional, and national level. She will bring this experience to her new role as the director of adult programs overseeing the USTA League program in the section and other adult tennis engagement programs.
