Two Iowa Tennis Facilities Win Cash Raffle by Hosting L7 Junior Tournaments
Iowa tennis organizations had the opportunity to win up to $800 by offering an official Level 7 junior tournament and following all the requirements. Cash prizes included $800 for the first raffle ticket drawn, and $600 for the second raffle ticket that was selected. USTA Iowa came up with this idea to encourage more facilities to host L7 junior tournaments, and get more kids to play competitively.
“USTA Iowa wanted to stimulate the tournament offerings since Level 7s are a new concept with shortened format meant to fit into a half day to one day duration,” said Mark Blume, USTA Iowa District Executive Director. “We hope these tournament directors that were willing to try it out will continue to offer them in the future, and provide the much-needed organized match play that tennis players are craving.”
The drawing took place at the USTA Fall Meeting on Oct. 23, 2022. Ames Fitness was the top winner, receiving $800 and Lifetime Fitness in Des Moines came in second place and won $600. In 2021 there were no Level 7’s, but with this cash raffle, there were a total of 13 events. Each of the top winners also received a specially designed L7 t-shirt for the tournament director.
