USTA Kansas

Seeking League

Coordinator

USTA Kansas | January 3, 2018

USTA Kansas

Seeking League

Coordinator

USTA Kansas is interviewing candidates for the District League Coordinator position to manage the district's adult USTA Leagues. The position requires about 15-20 hours of work per week (depending on the time of the year) and is a part-time paid position. The district is looking for knowledgeable applicants as well as those with transferable skills who are willing to learn. This position requires someone who is thorough, adaptable, a good communicator, internally motivated and timely.

The position is currently held by Diana Christman the Executive Director for the district. She has done an impeccable job in this role but needs to focus her efforts on her Executive Director position and its increasing demands.

The position has three major focal areas:

1. Meetings and conference calls –

Twice a year USTA Missouri Valley has meetings in Kansas City. ADVERTISEMENT The District League Coordinator is required to attend these meetings and sit in on training and give presentations to other coordinators about growth plans for the district, etc. The meetings are usually on a Friday and Saturday and usually sometime in April and November.

There are monthly conference calls with all the coordinators.

There are two board meetings for USTA Kansas and one will be the same day as the USTA Kansas awards and luncheon. Presentations and reports will need to be done for these meetings.

Captains meetings will be held once a year in Topeka and Wichita to go over rules and scheduling and answer captain’s questions.

Local league committee meeting once a year. This may be in Wichita or Topeka. The League Coordinator would get together with the other league committee members to discuss rules and league issues and policies.

Once a year there is a conference call (sometimes it takes two calls) to discuss district awards. The district selects someone for each award and then assigns someone to write the award information.

2. Working with players and captains

The District League coordinator will receive many e-mails! Questions about leagues, schedules, how to enter scores, changing scores that were entered incorrectly. Diana gets dozens of e-mails every few days so this is a big and time-consuming part of the job.

Working with captains to resolve issues and problems and answering player’s questions about ratings, etc. is a big part of what this job entails.

3. Administrative duties

League schedules – The District League Coordinator will create the yearly league schedules. Not the actual dates and times matches are played, but the time frames of the schedule. For example, 40 and over 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 indoor held from Jan. 1 through March 15th for every league. The League Coordinator will work with the scheduler, Myron Pushyk, to get his agreement on the dates, and then follow up regularly to make sure everything is happening according to the planned schedule once it is posted.

Work with Myron on team registrations and send team numbers when requested by captains.

Send letters to captains with instructions for registering their team for leagues and also for sectionals events. Then monitor the team registrations.

Update the rules annually and get approved by USTA Missouri Valley.

There are several USTA player reports the District League Coordinator must look over and monitor as leagues progress.

Fix scores on TennisLink when they are reported or entered incorrectly.

Diana is still the Executive Director so she will be available for help and training until the selected applicant would be up and running and comfortable.
