USTA Nebraska Heather Blumel Named President

USTA Nebraska | January 25, 2018

Heather Blumel took over as the president of UstA Nebraska in November and will hold the position through 2019.

During the day Heather works as a sixth grade math teacher, but spends most of her evenings on the tennis court.  She started playing as a way to spend more time with her mom, who was an avid player, in a “for fun” league once a week.  Heather now plays on nine teams, she has captained four of those teams herself, and two teams advanced to sectionals.  Heather also competes in a number of USTA tournaments. Blumel and her partner Betsy Flood are ranked no. 1 in the USTA Missouri Valley for 4.0 doubles and they will be competing in the NTRP National Championships in April.

Heather has been volunteering with the Omaha Tennis Association for the past four years.  In that time she was instrumental in implementing annual member parities and membership renewal online.  It has doubled their membership.

Starting this year as well, Heather will begin assisting the College of Saint Mary women's tennis team.

Heather said “I am looking forward to helping grow tennis in Nebraska.  We are really trying to focus on our junior programs and lower level adult leagues”
