Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Casey McKenzie | May 13, 2022

USTA Oklahoma hopes you will join us in celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! While the nation honors the contributions and cultural impact of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders throughout the month of May, we are shining a spotlight on two of Oklahoma’s outstanding junior players.

Sean Wu and My Vu are both active players and volunteers at First Serve OKC, a NJTL (National Junior Tennis and Learning) program that strengthens the lives and character of Oklahoma City youth through tennis and education. Both players are known for their excellence on the court and in the classroom.

My Vu is the 2021 recipient of the Oklahoma Tennis Foundation Curtis Richmond scholarship and is the May 2022 USTA Oklahoma Spotlight Athlete of the Month. Now in her 5th year in the First Serve OKC program, Vu is described a student leader and mentor. “She’s one of the most hardworking students,” says Tony Mullican, Interim Executive Director of First Serve. “My exemplifies determination and dedication.”

Sean Wu has also been with First Serve OKC for the past five years, establishing himself as an outstanding leader and teammate. Sean is very active, finding success in Tennis, E-Sports and All-State Orchestra, all while being a member of the National Honor Society for academics. Amid all of these activities and accolades, Sean still remains humble and is a volunteer teaching younger players tennis at First Serve OKC.
