Grassroots tennis awards given at 2023 USTA Annual Meeting and Conference
Eight advocates for the sport of tennis at the grassroots and local levels were honored with seven awards at the 2023 USTA Annual Meeting and Conference in Phoenix, Ariz.
The USTA presented annual honors of the following awards: Adaptive Tennis Award, Barbara Williams Service Award, Bill Talbert Junior Sportsmanship Award, League Volunteer Award, National Junior Scholar Athlete, NJTL of the Year Award and Outstanding Featured Facility.
“We are proud to celebrate these outstanding individuals and organizations for their ongoing efforts to help grow the game of tennis across the country,” Craig Morris, Chief Executive, Community Tennis, USTA, said. “From adaptive tennis and stellar leadership to volunteers and community outreach in under-served communities, each awardee has truly made a difference in their communities through their passion and commitment. We applaud all of you for this well-deserved recognition.”

Adaptive Tennis Award: Blind and Visually Impaired Tennis of Highland Park (Pittsburgh, Penn.)
Barbara Williams Service Award: Pam Sloan (Stockton, Calif.)
Bill Talbert Junior Sportsmanship Award: Nicholas Chen (Oakland, Calif.)
League Volunteer Award: Bonnie Vandegrift (Asheville, N.C.)
National Junior Scholar Athlete: Masato Perera (Santa Barbara, Calif.) & Sophia Wang (St. Petersburg, Fla.)
NJTL of the Year Award: First Serve - New Mexico (Santa Fe, N.M.)
Outstanding Featured Facility Award: Edmond Center Court (Edmond, Okla.)
