USTA announces areas of focus for junior tournaments in 2022
In 2021, the USTA rolled out a new, simplified structure for its sanctioned junior tournaments that was positively received by players, coaches, officials and parents alike.
A full transition from 17 different systems to one comes with a host of inherent challenges, but the USTA is committed to continuing to evaluate and improve this system in the years ahead.
As a part of this evaluation process, the USTA formed multiple task forces, made up of USTA section staff, National Junior Competition Committee members and USTA national staff, to determine what potential adjustments needed to be made for 2022.
After analyzing nationwide data and analytics, the following items are scheduled to be addressed in 2022:
- An adjustment to the overall number of Level 4s
- An adjustment to the overall number of Level 5s
- Adjustments to the Level 6/Level 7 point table
- A focus on team events
This evaluation and task force process will take place annually as the USTA continually refines the junior tournament structure and experience.
