Fred Wells Tennis and Education Center (FWTEC) is pleased to announce that Christine Nickels will become the Assistant Executive Director/Director of Education and Partnerships of the St. Paul-based nonprofit center. Nickels appointment will begin November 20, 2017.
As the Director of Education and Partnerships, Nickels will provide leadership, planning, communication and implementation of TennisWorks, FWTEC’s education program for youth who live in under-resourced Twin Cities neighborhoods. Nickels will also assume the role of Assistant Executive Director, supporting Executive Director Esther Tsai with other strategic initiatives.
Prior to joining The Fort, Nickels was the Director of Community Tennis for the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Northern office, where she administered section grant programs, provided support to Community Tennis Associations and National Junior Tennis and Learning Chapter, and oversaw all community tennis programs. She has been a familiar face to FWTEC patrons, staff and students working with USTA as a partner organization for The Fort’s TennisWorks programs.
Nickels graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a degree in exercise and sport science and was a member of the women’s tennis team. In 2014, she completed the Mini-MBA for Nonprofits course offered through the University of St. ADVERTISEMENT Thomas Executive Education. Nickels volunteers her time with several local nonprofits including the MN Coalition of Women in Athletic Leadership, Sports Alliance of Minnesota, Positive Coaching Alliance MN, and Hammer. Nickels is certified by the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) in junior and adult development and helps coach a Special Olympics tennis team in Minneapolis.
“It is with great pleasure we welcome Christine to The Fort family. Christine’s experience and skills in a leadership role will advance our TennisWorks program and the Fort’s mission,” said Tsai.
