FIVE TEAMS CROWNED SECTION CHAMPIONS AT USTA LEAGUE MIXED 18 AND OVER SECTION CHAMPIONSHIPS

ALAMEDA, Calif. — October 15, 2019 — Five teams captured titles at the 2019 USTA Northern California Mixed 18 & Over League Section Championships on October 11-13, 2019, in the Sacramento area. The championships brought together the top 64 teams with over 750 players of various ability levels throughout Northern California. The league winners will represent USTA Northern California at the 2019 USTA National League Championships to be held November 1-3/8-10, 2019, in Orlando, FL, and Surprise, Ariz. In the Mixed 18 & Over 6.0 Division, the Folsom team representing the Broadstone Sports Club, won four out of five matches during the Section Championships to take the title home.ADVERTISEMENT
The 23-person team is captained by Susan Weinstein and co-captained by Theresa Lo.
In the Mixed 18 & Over 7.0 Division, the Pleasant Hill team representing Pleasant Hill Tennis Club, went undefeated during the Sectional Championships to claim the title.
The 19-person team is captained by Ariel Santos and co-captained by Jonathan Indick and plays out of Pleasant Hill Middle School.
In the Mixed 18 & Over 8.0 Division, the Fremont team representing the Bay Club Fremont, swept the competition throughout the entire season and post-season to qualify for the USTA League National Championships.
The 22-person team is captained by Ming Ta and co-captained by Alexander Tain.
In the Mixed 18 & Over 9.0 Division, the San Francisco team representing Saint Ignatius College Preparatory, beat teams from Walnut Creek, Los Gatos, Novato, and Mountain View to finish in first place.
The 21-person team is captained by Tiffany Lam and co-captained by Danny Ballesteros.
In the Mixed 18 & Over 10.0 Division, the Albany team representing Memorial Park, won two out of their three matches to take the title home.
The 19-person team is captained by Patrick Huck and co-captained by Jason Swor.
USTA League was established 37 years ago to provide adult recreational tennis players throughout the country with the opportunity to compete against players of similar ability levels. Players participate on teams in a league format, which is administered by the USTA through its 17 sections. USTA League groups players by using six NTRP levels, ranging from 2.5 (entry) to 5.0 (advanced). USTA League is open to any USTA member 18 years of age or older.
