UPDATE:

For the last weekend of the USTA League National Championships that took place November 17-19, in Orlando, FL, the NorCal teams finished on a high note. The Adult 55 & Over 7.0 Women’s team from Pebble Beach, CA, eased into the finals with a 3-0 win over the Hawaii team in the semifinals, before battling it out against the Eastern team. In the end, the NorCal team took second place, only losing by three points for an overall score of 2-1.

Congratulations to all the NorCal teams who participated in the USTA League National Championships the last six weeks, and we hope to see all of you next year during our local leagues!

During the weekend of September 15-17, four NorCal teams competed at the National Open and 5.5 Team Championships benefiting the American Cancer Society, in Las Vegas, NV.

Taking place at the Darling Tennis Center, this event is nothing new for the California Tennis Club as this is the second year in a row that they reach the finals. At the end of the three day competition, the Adult 18 & Over Women’s Open reached the finals but fell 3-0 in the finals to a team from the Eastern Section in the final round. On the men’ side, the Adult 18 & Over Men’s team from California Tennis Club fell one match short of a two-peat, losing 2-1 in the finals against a tough team also from the Eastern Section.

 

The Adult 40 & Over Open Championship also took place at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas, NV on September 15-17. The Olympic Club, who was a semifinalist last year, made it one round further, advancing to the finals, but falling 2-1 against a team from the Southern Section.

 

During the first weekend of the USTA League National Championships in Surprise, AZ, on October 6-8, the Adult 18 & Over Men’s 3.5 team from Bay Club SF Tennis, from San Francisco, CA, beat all three opponents to qualify for the semifinals. After a tough battle, the Texas team prevailed 3-2 to advance to the finals. The NorCal team fought hard in the playoff match but lost another heartbreaker match 3-2.

 

The second weekend of the USTA League National Championships in Surprise, AZ, on October 13-15, saw another NorCal team reach the semifinals. The Adult 18 & Over Women’s 4.0 team representing Mills College, from Oakland, CA, won all three of their flight matches to advance to the semifinals. The team out of Mills College gave it their all but couldn’t overcome the Midwest team and fell 3-2. In a tight contest for the third place, the Mills College couldn’t stop the Intermountain team, falling 3-2, to take home fourth place.

 

The third weekend of competition saw NorCal teams shine through once again!

The Adult 18 & Over 3.0 teams played in Surprise, AZ, Oct. 20-22, and both teams finished in the top four. The Women’s 3.0 team from In-Shape Browns Valley in Vacaville, fended off a fierce Florida team to take the crown home with a 3-2 score.

 

On the men’s side, the team from Johnson Ranch Racquet Club in Roseville, bounced back after a tough 3-2 semifinal loss against the Caribbean Section, to take third place. The NorCal team overcame a strong Texas team 3-2 in the playoff match.

 

The Adult 40 & Over 4.5+ National Championships took place Oct. 20-22, in Mobile, AL, and saw four new champions emerge. Due to the rain, the finals couldn’t be played and co-champions had to be declared. The team from Los Gatos Swim and Racquet Club in San Jose, reached the final match and was pronounced co-champions with the team from the Middle States Section. They had won their semifinal match 4-1 against a team from Portland, OR. 

 

The fourth weekend presents new NorCal Champions!

On the fourth weekend of competition October 27-29, that saw the Adult 55 & Over 6.0 and 8.0 battle it out in Orlando, FL, and the Adult 40 & Over 3.5 compete in Fort Lauderdale, FL, the NorCal teams came home with a new national champion! The Adult 55 & Over 6.0 Women’s team representing the Antelope Tennis Association in Antelope, CA, overcame a team from Jacksonville, FL, 2-1 to bring the title home. In the semifinals, the Antelope team defeated the squad from Pacific Northwest in another 2-1 victory. 

 

The fifth weekend of competition took place November 3-5, in Mobile, AL, and saw all the Mixed 18 & Over teams compete for the national title. The Mixed 18 & Over 8.0 team out of Pleasanton, CA, almost kept their undefeated season alive, only falling 2-1 in the finals to a strong Southern team, with two of the three matches going to a third set super tiebreak. Congratulations to all the players for an incredible season!

 

The sixth weekend of the Adult 18 & Over 4.5 competition took place November 10-12, in Orlando, FL, while the Mixed 40 & Over competed in Mobile, AL that same weekend. The Mixed 40 & Over 8.0 team out of Pinole Park qualified for the semifinals but were stopped by a strong team from Houston. Pinole Park finished third with Southern California as rain stopped play on Sunday.

 

In the Mixed 40 & Over 9.0 division, Los Gatos Swim & Racquet Club comes home with a national title thanks to 3-0 win over a Missouri Valley team in the finals. The NorCal team battled past a Florida team in the semifinals with a 2-1 victory.
