BIG CHANGES COMING TO 2018 USTA NORCAL 40 & OVER LEAGUES:
MORE PLAY OPPORTUNITY!

The Adult League Committee continually monitors responses from player surveys and ongoing communication from captains. The change to the Adult 40 & Over league format for 2018 is in response to such feedback.
The Adult League Committee has proposed and the board has supported increasing the Adult 40 & Over match format to 5 lines for local league to create a consistent league experience; to ease the stress on captains trying to manage their roster and schedule; to improve the championship experience by minimizing defaults; to even the playing field for our NorCal Section champion teams who compete at nationals against teams with larger rosters who have played 5 lines throughout the league.
League staff believes that this change will have a positive impact on Adult 40 District Championships by decreasing defaults from teams with insufficient qualified players. ADVERTISEMENT With 8 players required for a match, player rosters should be larger. More match opportunity will hopefully lead to players joining fewer teams.
To accommodate the increased number of courts required by a 5 line league, the Adult League Committee passed the 2018 calendar, moving the Mixed 40 & Over league to the fall season; the shorter Mixed 55 & Over league will now play in the winter months alongside Adult 40 & Over. Adult League Committee Chair, Larry Olmstead, explained, “The Adult League calendar is a complex puzzle! We must meet national championship deadlines for our players to be eligible; balance the number of teams playing in each of the 4 seasons to not overload facilities; and balance the type of leagues playing at the same time to provide maximum opportunity for our players.”
Look for 2018 Mixed 40 & Over team registration to open July 17, 2017; match play will begin September 11. Email questions to email@example.com.
