Norcal Pride Month Spotlight
USTA Norcal Staff | June 22, 2018
Winnie is a leader in the GLBT Tennis movement, and a tireless one! She is outspoken in her effort to make sure tennis is inclusive at all levels and within all organizations. In 2013, as president of the Bay Area CTA, the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Federation (GLTF), Winnie shaped the practices of the organization to guarantee inclusion to all members. She has implemented a member league survey that allows everyone a spot on a league team. She has also fought hard for UTSA Norcal and USTA National to put in writing and promote the official USTA transgender policy. When president of the GLTF, Winnie worked with the other West Coast GLTA clubs (San Diego, Las Angles, Palm Springs, Portland, Seattle and Vancouver) to ensure that lower rated players were included in traveling tournaments. She even pushed the other West Coast GLTA clubs to create a new tournament that included lower ranker players. ADVERTISEMENT
In 2014, Winnie received the USTA NorCal ACES Diversity & Inclusion Icon Award for her constant efforts in the LGBT community.
As a leader and advocate, she is continually assessing how to better meet the needs of the LGBT community. USTA NorCal is honored to recognize Winnie for her leadership in the GLBT movement and we look forward to keep our partnership growing.
