FIVE TEAMS CROWNED SECTION CHAMPIONS AT USTA LEAGUE MIXED 18 AND OVER SECTION CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

ALAMEDA, Calif. — October 18, 2017 — Five teams captured titles at the 2017 USTA Northern California Mixed 18 & Over League Section Championships on October 5-8, 2017, in the Sacramento area. The championships brought together the top 73 teams with over 850 players of various ability levels throughout Northern California.

 

In the Mixed 18 & Over 6.0 Division, the Pleasanton team representing the Pleasanton Tennis and Community Park, came back strong after losing the first match to take the title home.

The 17-person team is captained by Derryl Acosta and co-captained by Matthew Hedges.

In the Mixed 18 & Over 7.0 Division, the Sunnyvale team representing the Sunnyvale Municipal Tennis Center, went undefeated all season and during the Sectional Championships to claim the title.

The 21-person team is captained by Henry Yao and co-captained by Yuan Xu.

 

In the Mixed 18 & Over 8.0 Division, the Pleasanton team representing the Pleasanton Tennis and Community Park, only lost two individual matches to qualify for the USTA League National Championships.

The 17-person team is captained by Raymond Hool and co-captained by Christopher Sumerlin.

 

In the Mixed 18 & Over 9.0 Division, the Foster City team representing the Foster City Tennis Club, was undefeated in sectional play to take the title home.

The 22-person team is captained by Brian Heimbecker and co-captained by Marsha Heimbecker, and plays at the Edgewater Park.

 

In the Mixed 18 & Over 10.0 Division, the Walnut Creek team representing the Walnut Creek Racquet Club, went undefeated to finish in first place.

The 19-person team is captained by Lisa Cheng, and plays at the Walnut Creek Tennis Center

 

USTA League was established 37 years ago to provide adult recreational tennis players throughout the country with the opportunity to compete against players of similar ability levels. Players participate on teams in a league format, which is administered by the USTA through its 17 sections. USTA League groups players by using six NTRP levels, ranging from 2.5 (entry) to 5.0 (advanced). USTA League is open to any USTA member 18 years of age or older.
