ALAMEDA, Calif. — August 29, 2019 — USTA Northern California 2019 Adult 18 & Over League Section Championships concluded August 23-25, in the Monterey area. The Adult league started with 1100+ teams of various ability levels in our traditional and daytime programs throughout Northern California. The Men’s and Women’s, 3.0 to 4.5+ levels, along with the Women’s 2.5, will represent USTA Northern California at the 2019 USTA National League Championships to be held in October 2019, in Las Vegas, NV, Surprise, AZ, Oklahoma City, OK, Orlando, FL, . The Santa Clara team representing the Bay Club Santa Clara won all their playoff and District matches to secure its title.ADVERTISEMENT
The 16-person team is captained by Michael Gold.
The Sunnyvale team representing the Sunnyvale Municipal Tennis Center won three out of their four matches during the Section Championships to take the title home.
The 24-person team is captained by Dongning Ma.
The San Francisco team representing the Bay Club SF Tennis only lost one matche all year to finish in first place.
The 23-person team is captained by Rohith Pottabathni and co-captained by Eric Debbane.
The Gold River team representing the Gold River Sports Club went undefeated all year to qualify for the USTA League National Championships.
The 21-person team is captained by Venu Mullapudi and co-captained by David Hardern.
The Los Gatos team representing the Bay Club Courtside beat teams from Alameda, Lafayette, San Francisco, Reno, and Fresno to take the Section title home.
The 14-person team is captained by Viswajit Simhadri.
The Danville team representing Crow Canyon Country Club battled through teams from Vacaville, Los Gatos, Alamo, and Folsom to claim the section championship title.
The 16-person team is captained by Kimberly Lyons and co-captained by Anita Roth.
The San Francisco team representing the Olympic Club had two close matches with 3-2 scores and a 5-0 win to claim the title.
The 15-person team is captained by Caitlin Beatty and co-captained by Lisa Lohre.
The Elk Grove team representing the Laguna Creek Sports Club won three out of their four matches 3-2 to qualify for the USTA League National Championships.
The 18-person team is captained by Michelle Christensen and co-captained by Libertine Linsao Wilson.
The Santa Cruz team representing Harbor High School went undefeated through the regular season and the playoffs to advance to the USTA League National Championships.
The 18-person team is captained by India Hoffman and co-captained by Monique Honeycutt.
The Oakland team representing Mills College kept getting better during the Section Championships, overcoming a 2-3 lost to winning 4-1 in their last match to claim the title.
The 27-person team is captained by Dana Greason and co-captained by Suzanne Chan.
The Sunnyvale team representing the Sunnyvale Municipal Tennis Center went undefeated throughout the Section Championships, not losing an individual match all weekend long.
The 13-person team is captained by Lisa Steinback.
Women’s 3.0 Daytime
The Pleasanton team representing the Castlewood Country Club won all their matches 2-1 to lift the Sectional trophy.
The 16-person team is captained by Cheryl Moeller and co-captained by Maria Greenwood.
Women’s 3.5 Daytime
The Walnut Creek representing the Walnut Creek Racquet Club went undefeated throughout all the playoffs to lift the Sectional trophy.
The 18-person team is captained by Krisztina Kohlhaas and co-captained by Shawnley Walton and plays at the Walnut Creek Tennis Center.
Women’s 4.0 Daytime
The Sunnyvale team representing the Sunnyvale Tennis Club came back strong after losing their first match to take the title home.
The 17-person team is captained by Kelly Uyema and plays at the Sunnyvale Municipal Tennis Center.
Men’s 3.5 Daytime
The Roseville team representing Johnson Ranch Sports Club overcame the Sunnyvale Tennis Club team two matches to one to claim the title.
The 10-person team is captained by Chad Nadler and co-captained by Chris Mathews.
USTA League was established 37 years ago to provide adult recreational tennis players throughout the country with the opportunity to compete against players of similar ability levels. Players participate on teams in a league format, which is administered by the USTA through its 17 sections. USTA League groups players by using six NTRP levels, ranging from 2.5 (entry) to 5.0 (advanced). USTA League is open to any USTA member 18 years of age or older.
