Father & daughter excel in Nationals on the same weekend
October 8 and 9 was an excellent weekend for Lopez family out of London, Ky.
Renzo Lopez played on his men’s 40 & Over 4.0 USTA League team that captured the USTA League Championship. He led the team with two straight-set singles victories, one in the semis over New England and another in the finals over USTA Midwest.
Those matches were played in Oklahoma City, Okla.
On the same day, about 1,342 miles away, his daughter, Isabella, was competing in the USTA Junior Team Tennis 14U Intermediate Divisions Championships at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. Her team, the KY Slammers (coached by Swapna Deo), finished sixth. Isabella went 3-2 during the tournament.

Renzo’s team is out of the Bluegrass Racquet Club in Nicholasville and is captained by William McCubbin and Casey Hutchens. Playing line 1, Renzo also didn’t lose a set in four matches played on Friday and Saturday.
In other JTT action, the 18U Intermediate team from Madison, Miss., finished third. Lynda Ratliff is their coach. Madison’s team eliminated the CBRC High Fives out of Knoxville, Tenn., coached by Derek Stultz, in the semifinals.
