Mary Lowdon Outstanding Sportsmanship Award

2025 Lowdon Award Winner, Rayna Li

Established in 1972, this award is presented to the outstanding junior girl in Texas who exemplifies outstanding sportsmanship and fair play, both on and off the court. The recipient of this award is automatically nominated for the USTA Bill Talbert Junior Sportsmanship Award, when applicable.

Good sportsmanship can be defined as the practice of displaying respect, fairness, and empathy towards opponents, officials, and teammates. It encompasses a set of behaviors and attitudes that promote a positive and inclusive sports environment. By embodying these qualities, athletes can contribute to a culture of sportsmanship that benefits themselves and those around them.

  • Cannot be nominated by a family member. If a candidate self-nominates, a letter of recommendation (LOR) from a "sponsor" with their contact information must be included with this nomination form (e.g. tennis coach, tournament director, school counselor, teacher, principal, athletic director).
  • Must reside within the boundaries of USTA Texas.
  • Must have a current USTA individual membership.
  • Must be a girl and 18 or under as of January 1, 2025.
  • Cannot have any suspension points or Code of Conduct violations in the last 12 months.
  • Exemplifies the finest qualities of sportsmanship in competitive play, including but not limited to USTA Junior Tournaments, USTA Junior Team Tennis, and/or USTA Junior Circuit events.
