Applications Closed: Board of Directors

The USTA Central Indiana Board of Directors is a passionate group of individuals responsible for shaping the district's future through long-term strategic thinking. Their focus areas include enhancing internal and external communications, engaging and energizing volunteers, and increasing tennis participation.

Applications Closed: Committees           

USTA Central Indiana is a volunteer-driven organization with various committees working closely with staff and the Board of Directors to provide support and resources to junior and adult programs, and initiatives. 

 

The application deadline has passed.

 

Committee Purpose: 

The Fundraising Committee is responsible for ensuring that outside funds are raised and spent and/or granted to support the mission of Central Indiana. The Committee is also tasked with managing the Central Indiana directed fund at the Midwest Tennis & Education Foundation.

 

Committee Responsibilities:

  • Solicit funding through contributions, grants and fundraisers.
  • Advertise and award grants available through the Central Indiana directed fund of the Midwest Tennis & Education Foundation.
  • Help organize and facilitate fundraising events and campaigns.
  • Volunteer as needed to advance the goals of the committee.
  • Provide reports at the Board meeting following committee meetings.
  • Minutes must be taken at all meetings.

 

Committee Member Qualifications:

  • A strong understanding and desire to fundraise.
  • A strong understanding of USTA Central Indiana’s goals and objectives and how they can be furthered through specific fundraising and the awarding of funds through grants.
  • Experience writing grants, planning events, soliciting sponsorships and overall fundraising is not required but is valuable.
  • Local community connections for fundraising purposes are desired, but not mandatory.
  • Must have a valid USTA membership.
  • Must reside within the geographic territory of USTA CIN.

 

Time Requirements:  

Quarterly meetings, or more frequently as needed based on committee activity, and/or as the Chair or Staff Liaison determines necessary.

Committee Purpose: 

The Adult Tennis Committee is responsible for ensuring (1) that USTA Central Indiana’s Adult Leagues adhere to USTA regulations, continue to grow in participation and reflect the wishes of the league players where possible and (2) that USTA Central Indiana offers additional social tennis opportunities throughout the district to grow tennis throughout the District.  

 

Committee Responsibilities:

  • Adjudicate disagreements concerning local league rules, regulations, and scheduling when there is not a filed grievance.
  • Suggest rules changes for consideration at the Section level.
  • Formulate ideas aimed at league growth.
  • Volunteer as required by the DLC, e.g. ball pick-up, District playoffs, Bridge the Gap and other events and programs.
  • Serve as a resource to the DLC, when requested, how to handle/respond to league situations.
  • Develop and implement programs to help grow tennis, e.g. Captain’s Mentor Program, Tournament Support.
  • Provide reports at the Board meetings.
  • Minutes must be taken at all meetings.

 

Committee Member Qualifications:

  • A strong understanding of adult leagues and social tennis opportunities.
  • A strong understanding of USTA CIN’s goals and objectives relating to growing adult tennis.
  • Participation in league or social tennis events is not required but is valuable.
  • Must have a valid USTA membership.
  • Must reside within the geographic territory of USTA CIN.

 

Time Requirements:  

6-8 meetings per year or more frequently as the Chair and/or Staff Liaison determines necessary. 2-3 hours of time commitment per month.

Committee Purpose:

The Junior Committee is responsible for ensuring that USTA Central Indiana’s Junior Programs align with the goals and objectives of the CIN Board of Directors. The Committee is responsible for retaining existing programs and providing the framework for new community programs and tournament play in the District.

 

Committee Responsibilities:

  • Introduce play opportunities at parks, schools, organizations, and community events.
  • Grow recreational league play opportunities for all levels of players.
  • Establish programs and participate in events that showcase tennis to new and developing juniors in the district.
  • Determine details of the Central Indiana Closed Level 5 Championships.
  • Determine best practices for District Tournaments and Tournament Directors.
  • Work with the Midwest Section Junior Comp Committee to develop training strategies for new and existing tournament directors.
  • Develop a tournament calendar that provides playing opportunities for all levels of players and allows our high-performance players to stay competitive within the Section.
  • Provide opportunities for junior competitive development within the Section.
  • Provide opportunities for parent education as to practices and procedures.
  • Provide reports at the Board meeting following committee meetings and an annual report/overview.
  • Minutes must be taken at all meetings.

 

Committee Member Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of USTA junior programming options.
  • Strong knowledge of junior competitive structure, including tournament levels and ranking point scheme.
  • An understanding of the high-performance play structure within USTA.
  • An understanding of different tournament, selection and seeding options.
  • Experience with, or parent of, juniors in the team and recreational space.
  • An understanding of the targets and projects of the USTA Central Indiana Board of Directors.
  • Must have a valid USTA membership.
  • Must reside within the geographic territory of USTA CIN.

 

Time Requirements:  

Monthly Meetings, or more frequently as the Chair or Staff Liaisons determine necessary.

Committee Purpose: 

The Officials Committee is responsible for recruiting, overseeing and scheduling officials throughout the District. 

 

Committee Responsibilities:

  • Recruit individuals to become USTA Certified Officials.
  • Retain current USTA Certified Officials.
  • Create a schedule of all events requiring USTA Certified Officials.
  • Schedule officials as needed for events throughout the District.
  • Communicate with District Officials and advocate for them to the USTA CIN Board.
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise with Officials.

 

Committee Member Qualifications:

  • Must be a USTA Certified Official.
  • A desire to recruit new officials.
  • Must have a valid USTA membership.
  • Must reside within the geographic territory of USTA CIN.

 

Time Requirements:  

Quarterly meetings

Committee Purpose:

The Adult League Grievance Appeal Committee is responsible for ensuring that any appeal to a grievance decided under Section 3.00 of the USTA League Regulations against an individual, team, league coordinator or a member of a Championship Committee is appropriate and adjudicate the appeal per the USTA League Grievance Appeal procedures.

 

Committee Responsibilities:

  • Committee Members must remain impartial.
  • Conflicts of interest and appearances of same should be avoided.
  • League coordinators shall not serve on the Grievance Appeal Committee for a league over which they have jurisdiction.
  • Follow all USTA League Grievance Appeal Procedures.

  • Committee members must be familiar with league regulations and procedures at all levels.
  • Must have a valid USTA membership.
  • Must reside within the geographic territory of USTA CIN.

 

Time Requirements:  

Varies based on grievances being filed.

Committee Purpose: 

The Awards Committee is responsible for reviewing nominations and selecting qualified and deserving recipients for the District’s six (6) awards. 

 

Committee Responsibilities:

  • Become familiar with the requirements of each award.
  • Market and solicit nominations.
  • Review the nominations for each award and select the most deserving recipient(s).
  • Communicate with award recipients and invite them and their nominator(s) to the Awards Ceremony.
  • Attend the Awards Ceremony.

 

Committee Member Qualifications:

  • A strong understanding of the District’s awards.
  • Must have a valid USTA membership.
  • Must reside within the geographic territory of USTA CIN.

 

Time Requirements:  

Meetings to review and select the award recipients, as necessary (5-8 hours total) and attendance at the Awards Ceremony, typically held on a Saturday in early November.
