New England Player Council
'Junior players of New England inspiring young athletes to grow a diverse tennis community and instill good sportsmanship.'
The main purpose of the New England Player Council (NEPC) is to improve junior tennis in New England. The group of high school students started during COVID in 2020, and since then, has meet every week to talk about the next moves to improve tennis. The current goal of the NEPC is to improve sportsmanship within the junior tennis space.
Sportsmanship is a vital part of the game because it gives everyone on the court dignity. Good sportsmanship makes the game more enjoyable. It has also been proven that poor sportsmanship makes kids quit tennis at an early age, which is what the council wants to stop.
In addition, the NEPC is looking to make tennis more open to others who are not familiar with the traditional USTA tournaments. Tournaments can be nerve-racking for people, making them not want to play.
Overall, the council hopes to make playing tennis a more enjoyable experience for both the inexperienced and experienced player.
