Team NorCal Shines Bright At Second NTRP National Championships
The NTRP National Championships crowned winners in men’s and women’s singles and doubles divisions over two weekends in late March and early April. The 18 & Over singles and doubles divisions took place respectively Friday, March 29 - Sunday, March 31, 2019 and Friday, April 5 - Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Academia Sanchez-Casal in Naples, FL, while the 50 & Over divisions were played those same weekends at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, AZ.
For the second year in a row, USTA hosted the national adult tournament that leverages the NTRP rating system as a way to create level-based competition in the 18 & over and 50 & over age groups. The championships were round robin draws that led into non-elimination playoffs. A best-of-three short sets format was played with no-ad scoring and a tiebreak at 3-3, first to five points, win by one.
Seventeen players from across the country were crowned winners in singles, while thirty-two players were named NTRP champions in the doubles divisions at the 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 levels.
Team NorCal had a fantastic showing, coming home with four champions, three finalists and one earning fourth place. Our rock stars players represented the section so well and deserve a big shootout, dominating especially in the 50 & Over Doubles division.
Congratulations to all the NorCal participants and we look forward to following you next year!
