CT Open ofrece lección de tenis gratuita
NEW HAVEN, CT- El Abierto de Connecticut presentado por United Technologies organizó una clínica de tenis gratuita con la USTA, la USTA Nueva Inglaterra y muchos voluntarios locales el 9 de mayo para brindarles a más de 350 estudiantes de tercer grado de New Haven la oportunidad de probar el tenis para gratis. La estrella del tenis profesional de la WTA, Sloane Stephens, hizo una aparición especial en el evento.
El propósito de la clínica introductoria fue promover el juego de tenis y alentar a los jóvenes de New Haven a recibir lecciones de tenis asequibles en Parques y Recreación que se ofrecen durante la primavera, el verano y el otoño. El torneo ha trabajado con las Escuelas Públicas de New Haven y New Haven Parks & Rec. durante más de 10 años.
"Esta fue una gran oportunidad para sacar a la cancha a estos niños que de otro modo no tendrían la oportunidad", dijo Jenn Myatt, representante del Servicio de Tenis de Nueva Inglaterra de la USTA para Connecticut, quien ayudó a coordinar el evento. "Estamos muy satisfechos con la participación, pero aún más encantados de ver la emoción y el entusiasmo que estos niños mostraron durante toda la mañana ante la oportunidad de jugar tenis".

Congratulations to the July USTA League Captains of the Month, Sam Rubin, of Brookline, MA and Hilary Holm, of Whitefield, ME! Sam Rubin started as a Social Tennis League player, where he’s played in Boston area sites for years. It was there he found out about the opportunity to serve as a captain of the 18-39 league out of Eastern Mass. The Friendship Cup has a rich history and successful story of establishing international camaraderie and sisterhood both on and off the court. The tradition started in 1967 when Walter Foeger of Vermont was looking to establish competitive senior tennis play in alliance with the New England Lawn Tennis Association (NELTA), now USTA New England. He contacted George Barta of the Canadian senior division, and together, they created the Friendship Cup. In that year, players competed on three courts at the Jay Peak Resort in Vermont. Read More
