El este derrota a Nueva Inglaterra en la primera batalla fronteriza del JTT
STAMFORD, CT- Chelsea Piers Connecticut fue sede de un nuevo evento de Junior Team Tennis (JTT) que enfrentó a equipos de Nueva Inglaterra contra equipos de la Sección Este de la USTA. El evento llamado “Border Battle” contó con dos equipos de Nueva Inglaterra de Connecticut y dos equipos del Este en las divisiones 14U y 12U que se enfrentaron en un juego aéreo.
Chelsea Piers (Stamford) tenía equipos en ambas divisiones, mientras que Guilford Racquet Club (Guilford) compitió en la 14U y Solaris Racquet Club (Stamford) jugó en la categoría 12U. MatchPoint Tennis y Cunningham Tennis, ambos de Nueva York, trajeron cada uno dos equipos para completar las divisiones.
"Eventos como este son una oportunidad perfecta para que los jugadores jóvenes salgan de su zona de confort y se reúnan y compitan contra niños con los que normalmente no tendrían la oportunidad de hacerlo", dijo Jon Kostek, Gerente de Juego Juvenil de la USTA Nueva Inglaterra.
El equipo MatchPoint, dirigido por Ari Roberts, se llevó a casa el primer premio en ambas divisiones. Mantuvieron a raya a Guilford, segundo clasificado en la división 14U, en una lucha que estuvo cerca de arriba a abajo. Solo 23 juegos en total separaron a MatchPoint del equipo en cuarto lugar, Chelsea Piers.
En la categoría 12U, el segundo lugar, Solaris, tuvo un récord de set y posición idéntico al de MatchPoint (11-4), pero se quedó corto por 11 juegos, lo que permitió a MatchPoint completar la barrida. Cunningham terminó tercero y Chelsea Piers cuarto.
- Solaris 12U terminó en 2segundo lugar.
- Matisse Farzam y Malena Schraa compiten en dobles mixtos para Solaris.

The Friendship Cup has a rich history and successful story of establishing international camaraderie and sisterhood both on and off the court. The tradition started in 1967 when Walter Foeger of Vermont was looking to establish competitive senior tennis play in alliance with the New England Lawn Tennis Association (NELTA), now USTA New England. He contacted George Barta of the Canadian senior division, and together, they created the Friendship Cup. In that year, players competed on three courts at the Jay Peak Resort in Vermont. Read More
