Facility Highlight: RacFit
Just south of Austin, the areas of Buda and Kyle are some of the fastest growing communities in Texas. This summer, RacFit is offering a unique blend of fitness amenities and racquet sports courts and programming. The facility boasts a number of outdoor and indoor tennis courts, covered pickleball courts, and modern amenities such as a full fitness center, active childcare space, cantina and more.
[title] Grant Chambers and Director of Junior Tennis, Mike MacVay, two of the facility’s founders, said the idea of the facility began years ago on a car ride to a USTA League Sectionals event.
“We were both very involved in the local tennis association, Tennis Austin. And the message for years has been, ‘We need more tennis courts in Austin.’ So this is back in 2018–2019. And we just started talking about it again,” Chambers said. “Why hasn't anybody built more courts?”
From that spark, they talked to friends in the area, investors and other stakeholders, and ultimately undertook the process of acquiring land, designing facilities and opening doors of their very own facility in early summer of 2026.
RacFit offers a unique business model. Not only does it offer memberships, but members of the public can access their courts, play opportunities, and variety of camps and programs. Chambers said that RacFit offers a blend of features you might find at both private clubs and larger public tennis facilities, but with their own twist.
“We wanted to dip our toes more into the entertainment world. When you come to our facility, you're just having a different visual and audio experience,” he notes. “You're going to hear music coming from the sidewalks. You're going to see a lot of TVs with tennis matches playing. You’ll have people that are standing up and greeting you with a smile when you walk in the door. It is just this whole rounded experience.”
Brad Harris, Director of Adult Tennis, also emphasized the indoor tennis courts, a much-appreciated comfort during Central Texas summers.

“I have double the energy I've ever had coaching in it. I come every single day and I'm all excited to be able to teach indoors and have consistency and that consistency comes with the players too,” he said. “We have people coming out guaranteeing they're going to play Monday through Sunday and they're developing – they're getting better faster on indoor courts than I've ever seen people on outdoor courts because they're here every day. You get a lot of people that get scared away from playing because it's too hot in the summer and now we have something that they could do year round.”
General Manager, Michelle Stallard said the facility has been warmly greeted by the Buda and Kyle communities and RacFit is working to keep giving back.
“I feel like it's accessible to everybody. We're a big community space and everybody's welcome no matter where you come from and we welcome everybody,” she said. “We even have a racquet foundation which also helps kids that need lessons when they can't afford it on their own.”
Chambers said facility assistance grants from USTA and USTA Texas helped make their dream of this facility a reality:
“We were awarded the top dollar amount: $200,000, which was incredibly helpful,” he said. “In fact, it was so much help that it allowed us to build more tennis courts than we originally planned. Without that we would not have been able to have as many tennis courts as we have. Those funds are critical in helping us get to the finish line and open our doors.”
MacVay and Chambers said the reception from the surrounding community has been resoundingly positive and they already have dreams of expanding USTA League at the facility and maybe even covering future courts as they continue deepening the relationships they’re making through RacFit.
“What we've already seen in the first two months, we couldn't have asked for a better response and a better opening,” Chambers said. “We’ve already had about 2,600 people that have come through our doors.”
