A possible 2015 US Open main-draw wild card is at stake for eight men's and women's American college players who will compete in the inaugural American Collegiate Invitational at this year's US Open.

Headlining the field are 2014 NCAA singles champions Marcos Giron of UCLA, a 21-year-old from Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Danielle Collins of the University of Virginia, a 20-year-old from St. Petersburg, Fla. The remainder of the field will be announced Aug. 11, along with the players who will comprise the USTA Collegiate Team.

The American Collegiate Invitational will take place during the second week of the US Open, Sept. 4-6, with the champions coming back to compete in the 2015 US Open. If the men’s champion is ranked No. 250 or better and the women’s champion No. 150 or better at that time, they will receive a wild card into the 2015 US Open singles main draw. Otherwise, they will compete in the US Open Qualifying Tournament.

The Collegiate Invitational winners will also receive wild cards into two USTA Pro Circuit events, while each runner-up will get one.

“The American Collegiate Invitational demonstrates the USTA’s commitment to college tennis by awarding the men’s and women’s champions a wild card into next year’s US Open, providing the additional opportunity for collegians to develop in the professional game,” said USTA Chairman, CEO and President Dave Haggerty.

Giron turned pro this summer after his junior year at UCLA, while Collins is heading into her junior year at Virginia. As the reigning NCAA champions, both are possible wild cards into the main draw at this year's US Open.
