SURPRISE, Ariz. - It was another successful year at the 2011 Jr. Team Tennis National Championships as we crowned two new Champions and concluded the weekend with some great new memories. As we look back on this year’s tournament we want to thank all of the teams, coaches, fans, staff members and everyone else who helped make this tournament an event to remember.

Advanced:

Team Southern from Alpharetta, GA, representing the Southern section, today captured the 2011 Jr. Team Tennis National Championship title by defeating a tough Texas Tornadoes team from Saginaw, TX, 43-39.

"Last year we finished in fourth place," said Team Southern Couch, Gary Foote. "We knew we wanted to come back strong this year and we did. If this doesn’t show that hard work and dedication really pay off, I don’t know what does."

At the semifinals match, the Westfield Racquet Heads from the Midwest section, took home third place honors as they defeated Mid-Atlantic’s Virginia Beach Dream Team with a score of 56-26.

1st Place: Team Southern (USTA Southern)
2nd Place: Texas Tornadoes (USTA Texas)
3rd Place: Racquet Heads (USTA Midwest)
4th Place: Dream Team (Mid-Atlantic)

Intermediate:

Much like the Advanced division, this year’s 2011 14U Jr. Team Tennis Intermediate Championship title also went to a team from the Southern Section, the Weddington Racquets. In what proved to be an exciting battle, the Wedding Racquets defeated a talented Florida Acers, 60-29.

"This is like a dream come true for us," said Paresh Vasa, Team Coach.  "When we started practicing we could have never imagined being here today. It truly is a dream to have accomplished this."

Earlier in the day during the Semifinals, the Robinswood Hu, representing the Pacific Northwest section, fell short of victory losing to the hard-hitting Sunshine Acers, representing the Southern California section, by a score of 30-55.

1st Place: Weddington Racquets (USTA Southern)
2nd Place: Florida Acers (USTA Florida)
3rd  Place: Sunshine Aces (USTA Southern California)
4th Place: Robinswood Hu (Pacific Northwest)

A final note: Not only does USTA Southern bring the big hardware home, but next year will have the chance to defend their Advanced and Intermediate titles on their own turf. In October 2012, the USTA Jr. Team Tennis National Championships head into the heart of Dixie, coming from the Cayce Tennis Complex in Cayce, South Carolina and The Lexington County Tennis Complex in Lexington, South Carolina.
