Position Title: Junior Play Assistant
Report To: Director of Junior Play
A. PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To assist USTA Northern in its mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis with specific responsibilities pertaining to junior tennis. This position must have a general knowledge of all USTA and USTA Northern programs while possessing a variety of skills to achieve the strategic goals and core values of the section.
B. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Junior Team Tennis
Assist with the efforts of increasing the number of Junior Team Tennis programs and participation.
Assist with the organization and administration of JTT leagues throughout the section via TennisLink and any other registration system.ADVERTISEMENT
Become adept at using Tennis Link and Club Spark within the realm of Junior Team Tennis. Maintain updates within Tennis Link as needed.
Work directly with Junior Team Tennis coaches and captains for successful program delivery.
Assist with the USTA Junior Team Tennis Championship track and non-member tracks for all levels.
Assist in running the USTA Northern JTT Section Championships.
Promote Team Tournaments - working with Marketing to achieve this.
Assist with the efforts of increasing junior tournament play within the section - handling general information questions, working with tournament surveys and sportsmanship.
Assist as needed in the processing and selection of players for junior tournaments at all levels.
Become adept at using Tennis Link and Club Spark within the realm of junior tennis – tournament processing and rankings.
Assist in the support of the new junior tournament pathway that will be coming online in 2021.
Assist with the coordination and administration of all national team events (Zonals, Intersectionals, 18’s National Teams & WTT).
EDC’s & Team USA Camps – Player Development
Assist with the administration of all camps, which may include the following: Secure courts at various facilities, work with the Director of Jr Play in hiring coaches for all camps, enter Team USA Players in AMS, send invites out for all camps, help process coaching payments for EDC’s, secure hotel rooms when needed and assist with other items that need attending and tracking participant progress.
High School Teams
Assist in providing resources and support to strengthen high school tennis programs, which may include after school and junior high programs.
Help secure speakers for the State Boys and Girls High School banquets, to promote JTT and junior programs within the section.
10U- Stars & Trophies Tournaments
Manage and grow all 10U orange and green ball tournaments in the section.
Responsible for selections of all 10U orange and green ball tournaments.
USTA Northern Officials
1. Responsible for assigning and scheduling officials for USTA Northern
events as needed.
2. Work with marketing in developing and managing a program to recruit new officials.
C. KEY OUTPUT INDICATORS:
Grow the number of Stars & Trophies tournaments and participants on an annual basis.
Increase the number of individuals becoming new officials.
D. KEY OUTPUTS
You may be asked to provide support for the JTT committee and Junior Tournaments & Rankings committee.
You must be fully engaged to assist the JTT Section local program, with May, June, and July being the busiest time period of the year.
Assist the Tournament Director for the USTA Northern Section JTT Championships.
Assist in meeting annual budget goals.
Assist all other program staff when time permits, in the fulfillment of their performance goals.

All USTA Northern Staff, Junior Team Tennis Committee, Junior Tournaments & Rankings Committee and the Player Development & ID Committee.
G. EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:
USTA Staff, Community Program Leaders, High School Coaches, and Contacts, Tennis Industry Association Staff, Parks & Recreation Directors and Tennis Staff, Community Education Directors and Tennis Staff, Public and Private Club Directors and Staff, Tennis Teaching Professionals, Tennis Sales Representatives, Retail Store Owners, Corporate Human Resource Directors, and Staff, PTR and USPTA Professionals
H. TRAVEL DEMANDS:
Required – Section meetings and events including but not limited to; USTA Northern Annual Meeting and Conference, Junior Team Tennis Section Championships, Team USA Camps and local EDC’s.
Possible – National meetings and events including but not limited to: USTA Annual and Semi-Annual Meetings, USTA Junior Team Tennis National Championships and meetings, Jr Competition meetings and Player Development meetings.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Administrative and organizational skills including multi-tasking and the ability to set and achieve goals.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
Strong computer skills (Microsoft).
Excellent customer service skills.
Web application knowledge.
Knowledge of and interest in tennis.
