Position Title: Director of Junior Play

A. PURPOSE OF POSITION

To assist USTA Northern in its mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis with specific responsibilities in growing junior tennis participation at all levels from recreational to high performance. This position is responsible for leading a team of program managers to effectively collaborate on the execution of strategic goals and rollout of a new National Junior Program Pathway.

 

B. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible for developing and overseeing the Junior Play department budget.

2. Serve as the staff liaison to Junior Play Committee(s), orienting new volunteers to their responsibilities, maintaining records and effectively working with chair(s) to lead committee work and execute charge.

3. Understand and enforce all policies, rules and regulations that govern junior play in the section.

4. Supervise Program Managers in the Junior Play Department, effectively sharing responsibilities for the execution and oversight of all junior programs and products (Net Generation Pathway).

5. Support in the recruitment, development, and assigning of USTA officials for all sanctioned events.

6. Educate constituents in the American Development Model, working to improve tennis programming for kids in clubs and community programs.

7. Cultivate partnerships with USTA Northern Program Providers to deliver Net Generation programs/products to consumers.

8. Ensure USTA Northern’s junior programs and opportunities are effectively advertised and communicated to players and parents.

9. Take on additional duties as assigned.

 

C. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

1. Effective management of the Junior Play department.

2. Participation in USTA junior programming.

3. Meet annual budget goals for revenue and expenses.

4. Fulfill annual performance goals.

Program Providers, Parents, Players and Partners in the Tennis Industry

 

G. TRAVEL DEMANDS

USTA National trainings and meetings (1-4 per year), sectional meetings and events throughout Northern section (MN, ND, SD, and western WI).

 

H. QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor's degree in a related field

2. 5 years of management experience

3. Certification with USPTA or PTR

4. Extensive experience organizing or coaching junior tennis players

5. Experience using Tennislink and TDM preferred

6. Excellent communication (written, verbal) and interpersonal skills

7. Strong computer skills (Microsoft, G-Suite)

8. Experience working with volunteers

9. Strong administrative and organizational skills

10. Ability to think strategically and execute plans

11. Demonstrated attention to detail and follow-through

12. Experience with USTA officiating preferred

Position Title: Director of Partner Engagement

A. PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To assist USTA Northern in its mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis with specific responsibilities in building USTA Northern and provider network capacity. The Director of Partner Engagement leads a talented Development & Marketing Team to ensure we effectively engage constituents with communications, special events, and opportunities to deepen involvement. This position will identify and implement tools (i.e. CRM) to assist staff in strengthening relationships with customers and increasing organizational capacity. S/he will cultivate partnerships with corporations and foundations to support section programming and grantmaking efforts. S/he will also oversee the distribution of section funding to our network of program providers.

 

B. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Fund Development 

a. Identify opportunities for corporate sponsorship and advertising to support USTA Northern programs and providers.

b. Cultivate strategic partnerships to enhance our collective impact (i.e. Youthprise Foundation, USTA Foundation).

c. Develop and promote a menu of giving opportunities for those interested in supporting our mission through financial contributions.

d. Utilize current USTA Northern assets (i.e. US Open Box) to increase revenue. 

 

2. Volunteer Engagement 

a. Assess our effective use of volunteers to improve organizational capacity. Work with staff to identify and structure meaningful volunteer opportunities for individuals and teams to support our work (i.e. projects, events).

b. Cultivate volunteers to deepen commitment to the organization, ensuring regular communication and awareness of additional opportunities to serve and give.

c. Identify meaningful ways to recognize and reward our volunteers for their service (i.e. spotlight during Volunteer Week).

 

3. Provider Network Support 

a. Oversee section grantmaking program, ensuring effective use of funds to grow tennis at the community level.

b. Provide technical assistance and training to Community Tennis Association (CTA) leadership to improve organizational capacity and sustainability. Assist with annual USTA registration to ensure continued benefits.

c. Support the fundraising efforts of local tennis charities (CTA’s, NJTL’s, High School Booster Clubs, etc.) 

 

4. Customer Relationship Management (CRM) 

a. Identify effective technology to manage our customer relationships.

b. Oversee the implementation and effective usage of a CRM to improve 

customer experience and cultivation.

c. Import USTA National data into our CRM on a regular schedule.

d. Identify and share relevant reports to inform business decisions.
