Position Title: Adult Social Play Coordinator (Part Time)

Estimated Average 15-20 hrs/week

Report To: USTA Northern Social Play Manager

 

A. Purpose of Position

To assist USTA Northern in its mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis with specific responsibilities related to USTA Northern’s Adult Social Play programming. This position must have general knowledge of all USTA and USTA Northern programs and opportunities, while possessing a variety of skills to effectively assist in achieving the strategic goals and core values of the section. 

 

B. Major Responsibilities

1. Assist in promoting the growth of Instructional and Social Play opportunities for adults.

2. Communication both verbal and written with instructors and programming communities to aid in program delivery.

3. Work with communities and Adult League staff to coordinate Social Play events (afternoons, evenings and weekends).

4. Assist on court with Adult tennis instruction and Social Play events.

5. Assist with TMT tracking of match generation and social play result data.

6. Assist with recruitment of players and promotion of pathway development.

7. Work with USTA Northern Adult Play team in the development and implementation of Social Play Events (i.e. Social League, Team Up, and Drop-In)

1. Number of Social Play Events

2. Timely execution of Community and Instructor communication

3. Adult social player registrations/Tennis Management Tools (TMT) registrations

G. Travel Demands

Required – Travel throughout greater Twin Cities for meetings and events Possible – Limited travel within the Northern section and National for Staff Training, Workshops, Annual Meeting, and various regional events. 

 

H. Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

2. Administrative and organizational skills.

3. Excellent Communication skills, both oral and written.

4. Strong attention to detail and follow-through.

5. Web application knowledge.

6. Knowledge of and interest in tennis.

7. Certified tennis teaching professional (preferred).

Position Title: Junior Teams Intern

Report To: Manager of Youth Tournaments & Team Competition

 

A. Purpose of Position

Provide a summer internship that assists USTA Northern in its mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis with specific responsibilities related to USTA Junior Team Tennis (JTT).

 

B. Major Responsibilities

JTT Program Management

● Assist in scheduling Twin Cities League.

● Create extra matches in the schedule, as needed.

● Check player eligibility.

● Update coach contact databases.

● Assist with special projects, as needed.

 

JTT Event Support

● Assist with Team Challenges

● Order prizes and manage extra activities at Section Championships.

● Assist with Score Entry and Championship administration at Section Championships.

 

C. Work Schedule

Late May – End of June - Approximately 30-40 hours per week in an office environment. Monday through Friday office hours are 9am - 5pm.

July – Early August - Approximately 30-40 hours per week with a combination of office work and time at various championship sites. You can expect longer hours during the week of Championships. Important event dates below.

D. Qualifications

● Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

● Strong attention to detail and follow through.

● Strong computer skills (Microsoft and Google Suite).

● Knowledge of and interest in tennis.

● Experience with social media.

● Past experience working tennis events is desired.

● Pass a background check.

● Reliable transportation to/from office and championship sites.

F. Conditions of the Internship

USTA Northern is pleased to provide an opportunity for interns to learn and grow in their professional development. Interns are temporary employees who are hired to perform limited duties. Interns shall work the hours set by their direct supervisor. Internship position includes a $10 per hour wage and does not include benefits. All reimbursement for travel expenses must be approved by the direct supervisor. All service with USTA Northern is at will and may be terminated at any time by the intern or USTA Northern with or without cause or notice. A courtesy of at least 2 weeks notice is requested for all resignations. If the internship is being completed for course credit, the intern shall discuss the requirements and any necessary paperwork with their direct supervisor.

Position Title:  Part Time Tennis Instructor 

Report To:  USTA Northern Social Play Manager

Compensation: $20-$23/hour

 

A.  Purpose of Position

To assist USTA Northern in its mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis with specific responsibilities related to Adult Recreational Tennis and Adult Instruction.  

 

B.  Responsibilities

  • Provide tennis instruction to adults enrolled in summer lesson programs through their city’s Park and Recreation Department or Community Education. 

  • Follow USTA-developed curriculum based on the play-to-learn concept. 

  • Register as a coach on USTA Net Generation; includes Safe Sport Certification and Background Check.  

  • Attend on court curriculum training on Saturday, May 16 from 9 am to 1:00 pm; also includes USTA Northern onboarding for seasonal employees.  

  • Communicate with Adult Recreation Play Coordinator on program development and success status.

 

C.  Timeline

  • Lessons will take place at various park locations in the Twin Cities Metro Area.  

  • Two sessions/levels offered each evening (and Burnsville daytime) at most sites:  a combination of Beginner, Advanced Beginner and Intermediate. Also, Match Play coordination and Drill and Play classes available at some locations.

  • Most programs are six weeks, and begin the week of June 1 or June 8; Minneapolis P&R sites are nine weeks.  Some locations offer a second session beginning late summer. Fall sessions begin in August and run through September.

  • Minimum of 4 and maximum of 10 (a few communities are max 12) students per class on 2 courts

  • Time commitment each evening is typically 2 ½ hours: 2 hours of on-court instruction and I/2 hour prep.

D.   Qualifications

  • Experience teaching and playing tennis; comfortable with working with adults  

  • USPTA/PTR certification desirable but not required

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Strong attention to detail and follow through

  • Responsible, prompt, reliable, fun, friendly

Job Description:

Tennis Director will oversee all aspects of the summer tennis lesson program for the Sioux Falls Tennis Association. This position reports to the SFTA Executive Director. Tennis ability with tennis teaching background preferred. Required to attend and host a Recreational Coaches Workshop. The position will be part-time form approximately late May through late August. If interested, position may include some after school and diversity programs during the school year. Position will require on court duties as well as administrative duties.

 

Responsibilities:

 Good organizational and time management skills.

 Creative: Plan age appropriate, stimulating activities for children ages 4-18 with the use of Net Generation curriculum.

 Good communication skills.

 Ability to hire, manage, and supervise instructors as well as groups of children.

 Flexible: able to adapt schedule quickly to meet changing needs of lesson/park schedule.

 Cooperative, motivated dependable worker: able to work with a team of people.

 Passionate about reaching and exposing kids to tennis.

 

Duties:

 Formulate, revamp and follow lesson plans for the instructors using Quickstart and Net Generation teaching methods.

 Responsible for hiring, monitoring, supervising, and disciplining instructors.

 Collect tax data, direct deposit, input payroll hours for instructors.

 Work with instructors to make sure children are in the correct lessons (ability wise) and that lesson numbers are beneficial to all.

 Conduct weekly staff meetings and complete pertinent reports if needed.

 Make sure written communication is disseminated to parent/guardians.

 Be available and prepared to respond to parental concerns.

 Work with registration site for current information.

 Promote SFTA.

 Prepare end of the report for SFTA Board as needed.

 

Weber Tournament (Tournament Director)

 Distribute and collect entry registrations.

 Obtain prizes, t shirts and other equipment.

 Work with instructors to prepare tournament.

 Ensure the tournament is properly staffed and staff is knowledgeable.

 Work with media before, during, and after the events.

 Ensure the tournament stays on budget.
