Typically our volunteer network is made up of tennis fans, players, coaches, parents and industry professionals, among others. We’re looking for individuals from all backgrounds with all sorts of experience levels. If you’re an avid player, coach, fan or tennis advocate (or even if you do any of those things casually!) and have a passion for growing the sport, we’d love for you to apply.
Middle States Volunteers
Promoting and developing local tennis opportunities is dependent on dedicated volunteers sharing their passion for tennis others.
There are a variety of ways to become involved as a USTA Middle States volunteer — from the ultra local level all the way through the section level. The only requirement is a love for the sport and a drive to give back.
Share your passion and become a volunteer by applying for open positions at the link below.
VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP
Our Volunteer Leadership in USTA Middle States consists of our Board of Directors, six District Councils that serve a two-year term. The next term will run from January 2025 through December 2026. Take a look at the organizational structure of the USTA by clicking the link below:
BOARD of DIRECTORS
The direction of the Middle States Section is managed by its Board of Directors, which has executive and administrative authority and sees that the Section is moving in the right direction. The Board of Directors is composed of officers, a Section Delegate, District Delegates and Directors at Large, as well as up to two positions appointed by the President.
DISTRICT COUNCILS
The six District Councils are administrative units of USTA Middle States, working within a respective region. The geographic area of each district was determined upon the ratification of the Section Bylaws. The volunteers who serve on a district council perform a wide range of functions, including assisting with the development of programs for junior and adult players, organizing special events, supporting staff and recruiting additional volunteers.
Positions on the Section Board of Directors and District Councils are two-year commitments.
Those serving on District Councils can expect to attend 6-10 group meetings per year, while also doing project work in between meetings with committees, project teams or small groups. Common District Council volunteer tasks include organizing community tennis events, assisting at local USTA championships, contributing to programming efforts or collaborating with staff on projects that grow the sport. The hourly commitment varies by district and by position, but anyone with an interest in volunteering and contributing to the sport locally is encouraged to apply.
Those serving on the Middle States Board of Directors can expect to attend approximately five board meetings per year, while contributing to the section through project teams, committees, or collaborative projects in between meetings. Board members often also represent Middle States through leadership and volunteer positions within the section and even nationally. While hourly commitments will vary, we ask that each volunteer have the ability to dedicate at least 3-6 hours per month on USTA volunteer projects and activities.
Our Middle States Board of Directors works with committees and project teams, section staff and District councils to grow the game across the section. The board helps oversee and contribute to Middle States' goal-setting and the overall direction of the section.
Our District Councils do similar work to the Board of Directors, but at the most local of levels. District Council members contribute to projects around their respective district, helping out with projects and initiatives as determined by council leadership.
