ALC Chair Chrissie Costamagna Brings Lifetime Love of Tennis and Experience to Adult leagues
A common thread throughout the USTA NorCal Adult Leagues Committee (ALC) is the wealth of playing experience each member brings.
ALC Chair Chrissie Costamagna is no different, taking 20 years of captaining with close to 50 teams to her post on the committee.
“Volunteering in general is very rewarding and giving back to a sport you are passionate about while helping make change for the better is something I love doing,” Costamagna shared recently. “If you are passionate about a topic, there are many opportunities to get involved, whether it's a one time event or long-term commitment, and reaching out to staff or existing volunteers would be the first step to take to apply your volunteer efforts.”
Costamagna has been playing tennis since she was eight years old and began playing in USTA Leagues in her late twenties, pointing to the lifelong friendships she’s made through Adult Leagues as her favorite part of her experiences.
“Tennis is a lifetime sport that people can participate in at any level,” she said. “It has positively affected my life and it’s a great way to stay healthy and meet lifelong friends.”
Captaining wound up being a perfect fit for Costamagna later on, adding that communication, transparency, and organization go a long way towards being a good captain and volunteer.
“I want to contribute a lot of my tennis knowledge as a long time volunteer for USTA in several different places, not only at NorCal, but also on national committees in order to grow our player base through our league offerings,” she said.
