CTA Fundraising

One of the largest concerns of a nonprofit is funding. The best approach is with a fundraising plan. This can consist of starting with a basic budget in order to know what dollar amount needs to be raised to meet a goal for the year. Then, a decision can be made on a campaign and tactic. Below are examples classified from grants to fundraising initiatives.

Once your plan is created, assess your resources and assign tasks. Finally, it’s time to find donors. Statistics have shown us that roughly 80% of charitable dollars in the US come from regular individuals, not wealthy corporations. The best place to start is within your own organization, ideally with your board members and their closes contacts. They will be your nonprofit's best advocates and hopefully solicit the most in your fundraising plan. From there, know your donor! If your CTA runs youth tennis, partner with a local pizza joint and fundraise together with a family fun night. If you run an adult social league, partner with a brewpub and host a “bring a friend” evening and beer. Piggyback on someone else’s event. Expand your world of contacts and donors by thinking outside the box.

Corporate Grants

  • Sports Organizations (Nike, Wilson, Sportscorp)
  • Local Banks
  • Foundations
  • Retail (Target/Walmart/Meijer)
  • Local car dealership

Fundraisers

  • Kroger rewards (local grocery store rewards programs)
  • Dine to Donate (local restaurants)

Sponsorships

  • Developed locally (banks, car dealerships, restaurants, insurance companies, investment companies, etc.)

*Before your nonprofit starts asking for charitable contributions, make sure you have a clear understanding of the legal rules that govern. Please see www.irs.gov (publication 526, 561,1771).  In addition, some states have laws that govern nonprofit fundraising, solicitation requirements, raffle tickets, etc. These vary by state.
