Improve Your Game:
Down the Line in Doubles
January 7, 2020

When you hit down the line in doubles, it's not uncommon for the returning volley to split doubles partners, because of shorter reaction time--but here's a tip to find more time.
If you're returning down the line, your next shot is likely to be a backhand through the middle of the court--but don't wait for your opponent's volley to make a move.
By anticipating the ball to come back down the middle as soon you decide to go down the line, you can put the pressure on your opponent.
Though they may still win the point, your willingness to cover the open space will no doubt give your opponent something to think about.
Hitting down the line can be a low percentage play, but it doesn't have to be.
