Tennis 101
August 28, 2021

Are you looking to try a new sport?
Are you looking to pick up a racquet again after a couple years away?
State and local health officials have repeatedly cited tennis as one of the safer options for physical fitness in today's climate, specifically because the sport naturally allows players to maintain social distance from each other. But tennis has always been one of the healthiest activities you can try. A study published by Mayo Clinic Proceedings found that those who played tennis increased their lifespan by 9.7 years—a larger increase than any other sport. Just as importantly, the game can boost mood and strengthen mental health, according to researchers at the State University of Southern Connecticut. Their study found that tennis players display more optimism and on average become less angry, anxious or depressed than those who play other sports. ADVERTISEMENT And learning tennis will pay dividends throughout your life. Once you grasp the fundamentals, you can play it at any age—even into your 90s.
Learn (or re-learn) the basics of the game in a fun, relaxed, no-pressure environment! Below are a list of clubs and tennis facilities across New York offering introductory tennis programming. Find the right location and fit for you. Keep checking back! We will update listings as we receive more programming information. Click here to see New Jersey introductory tennis programming.
