NTRP Nationals: How to Qualify in New England
The NTRP Nationals Championships are national adult tournaments that leverage the NTRP rating system as a way to create level-based competition at the 18 & over and 50 & over age groups. Each year, NTRP National Champions are crowned in men's and women's' singles and doubles at the 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 levels in both 18 & over and 50 & over age groups, as well as at the 5.0 level in the 18 & over division. Learn more below about how you can qualify for the 2020 NTRP National Championships.
USTA New England has been allotted 1 spot per division of play into the NTRP nationals. To be considered for selection, players must register on TennisLink at our USTA New England “selection site”.
This site will be available this fall.
Registered players must be willing and able to play in the NTRP nationals if selected. The deadline for registration will be December 29th at 11:59pm.
Selection Process:
1). For each division of play, the highest ranked player/team (from the year-end final rankings) who has registered will be selected.
a. For 50+ players, we will select the highest ranked player/team (from the 18+ rankings) who will have turned at least 50 in calendar year 2018 (both players for doubles).
2). After step 1 above, if no ranked player is registered, the Adult Players Committee will select a player based on available objective data. So, unranked players are encouraged to apply.
a. Doubles selection: Players are encouraged to register as a team. Teams are considered first in the selection process. However, players can register as an individual and still be part of the selection process (no pairings will be finalized without the consent of both players).
b. 5.0 players: Selected by committee.
c. Self-rated players are not eligible.
3). Final selections will be posted on the registration site by mid January and selected players will receive email notification. Players will then be responsible for specific online tournament registration.
