USTA Southern road to NTRP Nationals
USTA Southern now allows all players to qualify for NTRP Nationals, a change from 2023 when only Fast4 Qualifiers winners could (four tournaments per year). Starting January 2024 players with the highest ranking in the latest National Standings List, close to the registration deadline, will earn spots. As a reminder, USTA Southern's allocated quota is four (4) spots per division. A player's ranking is composed of that player's best six (6) results in the division played.

USTA Southern has been allocated four (4) spots per division, so the highest-ranked players per age division will be endorsed for the spot. As a reminder, the National Adult & Family regulations stipulate that a player’s best six results will count towards a player's ranking. Please find the regulations here.
To achieve this, the strategy involves increasing the number of NTRP Level 4 tournaments held in the Southern Section. This proactive approach aims to provide more playing opportunities for all NTRP Tournament players within the Southern Section, ensuring inclusivity and broadening the scope of qualifying events. With this in mind, USTA Southern has increased the number of Level 4 NTRP Tournaments from 4 to 18. The increase in tournaments ensures NTRP tournament players can play at least two Level 4 tournaments in their state, thus minimizing travel expenses.
USTA Southern's decision to transition from Fast4 Qualifiers to the National Standings List (NSL) for quota spots at NTRP Nationals is part of an overall adjustment in the criteria used for player selection. The NSL, which considers a player's best six tournament results, is a dynamic system that comprehensively evaluates players' performances across various tournaments, providing a more accurate reflection of their skill level.
Moreover, introducing two new requirements for players highlights the significance of regional competition. This measure ensures that players seeking qualification have actively engaged in events within the USTA Southern Section, promoting a balanced and fair representation in the selection process. Please see below for the two new requirements:
Players have to participate in at least one tournament within the Section.
Players must have a USTA Southern residency declaration on USTA.com and thus can represent the Southern Section at National tournaments.
In summary, the shift in methodology from Fast4 Qualifiers to NSL for NTRP Nationals quota spots reflects a commitment to enhancing the fairness and competitiveness of the qualification process. With the expanded opportunities through increased NTRP Level 4 tournaments, players are encouraged to participate in events strategically, showcasing their skills at the national level and within the USTA Southern Section to secure a coveted spot at NTRP Nationals.
