Our largest annual USTA Southwest event, the 18 & Over League Championships will make their way to the Duke City, Albuquerque, NM this summer. This year's 18 & Over League Championships will take place August 11-13 at various sites across the city.
Teams of players 18 & up from across the Southwest will for this championship event, which typically features up to 500 or more total players, in skill levels from 2.5 to 5.0.
Gender teams at all skill levels will compete over three days for the right to call themselves Southwest Section League Champions. Winning teams in each level will not only have Section bragging rights, but also advance on to the USTA League National Championships.
Player lunches will be served on Friday and Saturday.

Jerry Cline Tennis Center, 7001 Constitution Ave NE, ABQ, NM 87110 This 18-court public tennis venue has been our annual headquarters for league championship events in Albuquerque. This award-winning public facility has played host to a variety of USTA local and regional championship events, annually hosts the New Mexico High School State championships, and is the city’s largest public tennis center.

This is one of Albuquerque’s premier private tennis facilities, and an annual supporter of USTA programming at all levels.

This 15-court private club is located against one of the highest spots in Albuquerque (thus the name).
Tanoan Country Club, 10801 Academy Road NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111
This private club based at the edge of the Sandia Mountains boasts 14 championship tennis courts in a tranquil setting. The facility has played host to Section Championships events several times and is one of the top tennis venues in the city.
Sierra Vista Tennis Center, 5001 Montano Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120
This is a 10-court public facility located on the west side of Albuquerque is one of the premier public facilities in the city.
HOTEL INFORMATION
The host hotel for this year’s 18 & Over USTA Southwest League Championships is the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown.
Located just a lob away from the championships tournament headquarters – Jerry Cline Tennis Center – the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown has been a longtime partner of USTA Southwest in regards to league championship events.
Hotel night stays are $149/night (not including taxes and fees) and can be booked online. Dates can only be reserved from August 11-14 at this rate and with this group block. Cutoff reservation dates for hotels are usually about a month prior to the event, so reserve your rate early!

USTA Southwest 18 & Over League Championships

Deadline is July 13 to book at the room rate (Dates to request are August 10-13).
- A second hotel for those that will be playing near Sierra Vista has also been added, the Hampton Inn (6150 Iliff Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87121). The room rate is $136/night (plus taxes and fees). Cut-off date is July 16, 2023 to make reservations for the championship weekend. Players can call the hotel directly to make reservations at 505.833.3700.
VIRTUAL CAPTAIN’S MEETING
USTA Southwest will hold a virtual (online) captain’s meeting for this event on AUGUST 7 at 5:30 PM AZ TIME to go over event protocols and procedures. Section League Coordinator (SLC) will send out the event link to qualified captain’s a week prior to the virtual meeting.

Team Line-Up Sheets: Completed cards must be turned into the Tournament Desk by the team captain at the playing location 30 minutes prior to when the match is scheduled to start. All team members on the line-up card must be present at the facility before courts and balls will be assigned. A match could start as early as 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time, so it is very important that your team is present and ready to play when the captain turns in the team line-up card. All players must be prepared to present photo identification to the tournament desk staff prior to going on court.
Tournament Rules- Please review the enclosed tournament rules. Please keep in mind:
· When you are assigned a court please make sure you are playing the right team and position.
· NO COACHING
· The 5-minute warm-up rule will be strictly enforced
· All Tie Breaks will utilize the Coman Rotation.
· Match format will consist of a Coman 10-point Match Tiebreak in lieu of the third set.
· All courts should report their score immediately after their individual matches before watching their team, a winner and an opponent come to the desk to report the score together.
· When the team match is completed the captain from each team must go to the Tournament Desk, wearing their masks, to turn in scores and SIGN the scorecard.
Awards– Champions and Finalists awards will be given out as play ends on Sunday or after completion of each division’s matches. The USTA Southwest Section, will provide up to 12 awards for each Champion and Finalist team. Additional awards may be purchased at the team’s expense.
MATCH SCHEDULE
A final match schedule will be posted on TennisLink a week prior to the championships.
All teams should initially plan on playing all weekend, with match times beginning Friday morning and finishing by 2 pm on Sunday. Keep in mind you can be scheduled for any time!
Any teams going home early or abandoning the event without tournament director permission will be subject to a sportsmanship grievance, which could result in penalties and suspensions to the entire team from the USTA League Program.
