Player Pathway
Overview
The Player Pathway provides a comprehensive roadmap for American juniors, beginning with Player Identification for those under 14 and extending through a professional career. The journey is tailored to each athlete's age and their choice to pursue college tennis or the professional ranks directly. Each phase is uniquely designed to provide the specific coaching, resources, and competitive opportunities needed to develop players. Support is merit-based, with athletes qualifying through their performance, skill, and character, with the specific level of assistance determined by an athlete’s placement within their age group.

Overview
Player ID is the opening phase of the Player Pathway, dedicated to introducing young athletes to the game and building a rock-solid foundation.
Designed for players 13 & under, this phase employs camps focused on teaching, training, and competing so players can learn the technical basics and fundamentals of athletic development, personal development, and competition training.
During their final year in Player ID, athletes are paired with a national coach to guide their move into the Junior phase and our training weeks system. Along the way, standout players in each age group may also have the chance to represent USA Tennis in international competitions.
Competition Opportunities
13 & Under players can compete in a variety of entry-level and high-level junior tournaments tailored to their age and skill level. Players should take their first step into tennis competition at a USTA Team Challenge and then move up to USTA Junior Circuit events. Once players have achieved success in the USTA Junior Circuit, they can participate in USTA Junior tournaments, which are segmented into seven levels (with Level 1 being elite national championships) and represent the peak of junior competition in the US. Players are also eligible to compete in ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors tournaments once they turn 13 years old. Further details can be found under “Competition Information” on the Resources page.
