After Wimbledon, five American women are in the Top 15 for the first time since May 2004
For the first time since the week of May 24, 2004, five American women are ranked in the WTA Top 15: Coco Gauff (No. 2), Jessica Pegula (No. 6), Danielle Collins (No. 9), Madison Keys (No. 14) and Emma Navarro (No. 15).
This benchmark comes on the heels of a Wimbledon fortnight that was a show of American success on the hallowed grass courts of SW19. For the first time in 20 years, seven players—four women and three men—reached the fourth round in singles, and multiple men made the singles quarterfinals for the first time since 2000.
Gauff, Navarro, Keys and Collins reached the second week at the All England Club, with Collins achieving her career-best result at the tournament during her final season on tour, losing to eventual champion Barbora Krejcikova in the fourth round.
Navarro defeated Gauff in their fourth round matchup, and made the quarterfinals of a major for the first time. At each Grand Slam this season, the 2021 NCAA singles champion has improved her best result, from the third round in Melbourne to the fourth at Roland Garros ahead of her quarterfinals appearance at Wimbledon.
When asked during a press conference what it was like to see the Americans making runs at Wimbledon, Keys said that it was great to watch everyone thrive, especially newer players on tour.

“It's always amazing to see some of the people that I grew up with doing really well and playing well,” Keys said. “Then seeing Emma come along and play some incredible tennis and have an amazing year and figuring out on all surfaces, has been really fun to watch as well.”
Next up for the USA? Four of the top five American women—Keys will be focused on the hardcourt swing—are playing at the 2024 Olympics, with tennis starting on July 27. After that, US Open prep begins in earnest with the North American lead-in tournaments before main draw play begins on August 26.
