Caty McNally to replace Jessica Pegula at 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Finals
GLASGOW, Scotland - Caty McNally's late-season surge has earned her one more milestone. The 20-year-old Cincinnati native has been named to her first U.S. Billie Jean King Cup team for this week's Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Finals in Glasgow, Scotland.
McNally was called up Monday as a late replacement for Jessica Pegula. She'll join Danielle Collins, Coco Gauff, Madison Keys and Taylor Townsend on captain Kathy Rinaldi's team, which begins its Finals campaign on Wednesday against Poland.
The 20-year-old comes to Glasgow in the form of her career so far. She's posted a 25-11 singles record on tour since June, and last week, captured her first title above ITF World Tennis Tour level at the WTA 125 Series event in Midland, Mich. just last week. Prior to that, she qualified and reached the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 event in Ostrava, Czech Republic—one of three standout results in European indoor hard-court events this fall that helped her win the USTA's women's Australian Open Wild Card Challenge and assure herself a spot in the main draw of the first Grand Slam of 2023.
As a result of her recent success, McNally broke the singles WTA's Top 100 for the first time this week at No. 94.
The addition of McNally adds further depth to Rinaldi's line-up and particularly augments her options in doubles. McNally and Townsend reached the US Open women's doubles final in September, and she also had a run of success with Gauff that included a runner-up showing at the 2021 US Open.
Tennis Channel will provide complete live coverage of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in the U.S. from Nov. 8-13. The U.S. is guaranteed two round-robin matches. The Americans will play Poland on Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. ET; and the Czech Republic on Nov. 11 at 11:30 a.m. ET.
