Doubles Groups at ATP Finals Named for Bryan Brothers
All-time greats Bob and Mike Bryan have been given a special send-off by the ATP Tour this week, as the two doubles round-robin groups at the Nitto ATP Finals have been named in honor of the discipline's most prolific champions.
In 15 total appearances at the season-ending tournament, for which the eight best singles players and doubles teams qualify each year, dating back to 2001, the Bryan brothers combined to win four titles. Four victories ranks them second all-time behind the pair of Peter Fleming and John McEnroe that won seven, and the twins reached six finals overall. Mike Bryan added a fifth title in 2018 when he partnered Jack Sock in victory, as Bob was sidelined following hip surgery.
Winners of 119 titles in 178 finals overall, and 16 Grand Slams together, the duo announced their intentions to retire in 2020 last year, and despite the season's disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic, confirmed that decision, effective immediately, in late August prior to the start of the US Open.
In what was a shortened final season, the Bryan brothers captured their last ATP title at the Delray Beach Open in February, winning the event for a sixth time.
Among the eight teams competing in London, the U.S. is represented by Rajeev Ram, who has qualified for the event for a fourth time. Ram and British partner Joe Salisbury, who won the Australian Open together in January, are the No. 2 seeds, drawn atop Group Mike Bryan.
