Draw set for 2022 BNP Paribas World Team Cup

Ready, play: The draws have been released for the 2022 BNP Paribas World Team Cup, the flagship international team event in wheelchair tennis. Notably, the U.S. will face France in the group stage in the men's, women's and junior competitions.

 

The seventh-seeded U.S. men will also face Israel and South Korea in Group C, while Thailand is the other team that the eighth-seeded U.S. women will go up against in their own Group C. The American juniors, seeded No. 3 overall, will also duel with Brazil and Great Britain in Group A.

 

The U.S. quad team, seeded No. 2 as the defending finalists, will face Brazil, Great Britain and Israel in round-robin Group B. 

 

In total, 44 teams from 22 countries are competing at the wheelchair counterpart to Billie Jean King Cup and Davis Cup, which will be played for the next week at the Vilamoura Tennis Academy; the men's division boasts 16 countries, while a dozen women's teams will play along with eight quad and eight junior teams.

Conner Stroud and the U.S. men are seeded seventh overall.

Round-robin play begins on Monday and three days of round-robin competition will take place in each of the four events; the top teams from each group will advance to the semifinal stage, and further knockout rounds will decide the overall final standings. On the first day of play, the U.S. men and quad teams will both face Israel, while the juniors open their campaign against Brazil. Each round-robin tie consists of two singles matches and one doubles match.

 

The women's and quad finals scheduled for Saturday, May 7, and the competition conlcudes the next day with the men's and junior finals.
