Eubanks to make Davis Cup debut in 2024 Qualifier, joins Fritz, Korda, Krajicek and Ram
Welcome to the U.S. Davis Cup team, Christopher Eubanks. The 27-year-old will make his competition debut in next month's 2024 qualifying round.
Eubanks will join Taylor Fritz, Sebastian Korda, Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram on captain Bob Bryan's team that will face Ukraine. The two countries drew each other for the Qualifier in November, with Ukraine drawing choice of ground. Due to the ongoing volatile situation in Ukraine as result of the Russian invasion of the country, Ukraine will play as the home team at SEB Arena in Vilnius, Lithuania on Feb. 1-2. The arena will also host the World Group I tie between Lithuania and Georgia on Feb. 3-4.
Eubanks' first nomination to the U.S. team comes after a 2023 season in which he won his first ATP singles title, reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, and eventually broke into the world's Top 30 after ranking outside the Top 100 in March.
Both Krajicek and Ram competed for Bryan in last year's competition, his first as captain, including a Davis Cup debut for Krajicek in the Qualifier round played in Uzbekistan. Fritz and Korda return to the team after last playing in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Davis Cup Finals, and that year's Qualifier against Colombia in his winning debut, respectively.
This will be the first meeting between the U.S. and Ukraine in Davis Cup, though the U.S. notably hosted Ukraine in a 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Qualifier in Asheville, N.C., that helped raise more than $1 million for Ukraine crisis relief through the Tennis Plays for Peace initiative.
The Qualifier is a best-of-five matches series that consists of four singles matches and one doubles match. Two singles matches will be played on Thursday, Feb. 1, beginning at 6 p.m. local time (11 a.m. ET). A doubles match and two reverse singles matches will follow on Friday, Feb. 2, beginning at 5 p.m. local time (10 a.m. ET). Tennis Channel will carry match coverage in the U.S.
The winner of the tie—the nation that wins three matches—advances into the Finals, a 16-nation, multi-city competition held later this year, culminating with the Final 8 stage in November in Malaga, Spain.
