Arthur Kapetanakis | May 28, 2020

With the current suspension of the ATP and WTA Tours, we are opening up our US Open vault to bring you full match videos of classic encounters through the years in New York.

Watch on YouTube: Andre Agassi vs. Mike Bryan, 2000 US Open men's singles first round

Mike Bryan played only one main-draw singles match at the Grand Slam level, when he qualified for the 2001 US Open. An already memorable moment became even more so when the then-23-year-old doubles specialist was drawn against three-time US Open champion and world No. 2 Andre Agassi.

After a tight opening set in this all-American battle, Agassi, then 31, raced through sets two and three to kickstart his quarterfinal run in New York. He later defeated No. 13 seed Roger Federer in the Round of 16 before falling to Pete Sampras in a classic encounter that featured four tiebreaks and no breaks of serve.

Bryan, who has 18 career men's doubles Grand Slam titles to his name (16 coming with brother Bob Bryan), compiled a 5-11 career singles record at the ATP level, and a career-high singles ranking of No. 256 from October 2000.

The complete first-round showdown, along with scores of other great content, is now available to watch on the USTA YouTube channel.
